Mrs Oise Derby longtime Clare resident died of a heart attack suffered at home Tuesday morning. Her husband Oise Derby survives with two daughters, five grandchildren, and relatives. Funeral services are set for Friday at 2:00 PM at the East Fifth Street home with Rev H B Johnson officiating.

Explosion Injures Clare Youthful Former Resident
William H. Butcher, 24, a Saginaw Consumers Power worker, was hurt when an eight inch gas main burst under 175 pounds pressure at 8:45 Friday morning last week. He was hurled from a four foot pit and taken to St. Marys Hospital with severe face abrasions and possible serious eye and internal injuries. Chemical pneumonia from gas fumes led to an oxygen treatment and a serious condition. Two other workers escaped injury. Butcher is the husband of the former Miss Jane Ann Young, former Clare resident. News late Wednesday said he suffered a fractured skull and remained critically ill with pneumonia. eye injuries were still undetermined.

Word came early Tuesday of the death of Miss Amanda Hachmuth who died Monday night in Grand Rapids after a long illness. She was aunt to Mrs. Donald Holbrook and sister in law to Mrs. Ruth Hachmuth. She had visited here often and spent one winter here, making many friends with her pleasant manner. Mrs. Holbrook and Mrs. Hachmuth went to Grand Rapids Thursday to attend the funeral at the Congregational Church in Comstock Park at 2:00 PM.

Burton Scott died February 12 1948 at Central Michigan Community Hospital Mt Pleasant aged 78. He was born March 38 1869 in Scotchridge Ohio married Louisa Seagar March 23 1893. four sons two daughters survive with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
