Dairy Tour Planned for Clare and Gladwin Farmers

Dairymen of Clare and Gladwin counties will tour the dairy industry with two farm visits and a noon lunch on Thursday February 27. The first stop is the Ron Haines Farm at 10 30 a.m. Drive M 61.5 miles west of Gladwin to Bard Rd. Continued On Page 10.

Vernon Clare annexation plan revived in Isabella county

A revived proposal seeks annexation of Vernon City and part of Vernon Township into Clare City. The plan targets an area south of Vernon bounded by Dunlop Road US 27 and Herrick Road, with about 96 families affected. Residents would petition for favorable support before a possible ballot vote, aiming to extend city services and police protection while weighing tax implications.

Farwell Man Arrested For Check Passing At Local Cafe

George Allen Davis of Parkview Hotel Farwell was arrested ten minutes after police and the prosecutor were alerted to a series of bad checks. He allegedly passed seven of eight checks totaling 508.88 earning 353 in cash before trying to cash the last at Citizens Bank. Davis, a former cook at US 10 Cafe, was arraigned and jailed on a 2500 bond on a felony charge that could carry up to 14 years in prison.

Clare High Sets Scoring Record in 94-76 Win Over Evart

Clare High School posted a 94-76 victory over Evart Wildcats as Grant Gillaspy poured in 42 points to set a new school single game scoring mark. Coach Ivan Davis used many players in the late stages while Tom Whitfield and Dan White added double figures. The win followed a prior loss to Saginaw Arthur Hill Tech and preceded district tournament draw in Big Rapids. Junior high teams from Clare also claimed US-10 titles, with seventh graders defeating Coleman and Meridian and eighth graders beating Coleman and Farwell before facing Chippewa Hills. Don R. Harrison, now MSP traffic division corporal, was mentioned.
