Clare bands win four first division ratings in district events

Four Clare school bands earned First Division ratings across district events. On February 22 the Intermediate and Junior Bands toured Gladwin earning first ratings from two judges and a second from the third. On March 1 the Reserve and Symphonic Bands, directed by Kenneth Finley, received straight firsts at Standish. Both senior bands go to the State Band Festival on April 26, with the Junior Band performing April 19. Concerts are March 12 and April 16 at 8:00 p.m. in the High School Gym.

Annexation petitions paused over signer qualifications in Clare Vernon

Vernon City and Vernon township annexation petitions await city attorney guidance on who may sign. Officials seek legal certainty that petition signers meet age and residence rules, ensuring signatures are qualified. Plans include a 15 year installment method to cover improvements like water sewer and modernization costs for residents who will use Clare services.

Teachers And Board Negotiate In Clare High Library

An initial negotiating session between the Clare Board of Education and the Clare Education Association took place Friday February 28 in the high school library. Ground rules and aims were set to improve facilities and conditions for students and teachers. The Board team included Superintendent Richard Snyder and members Joe Johnston Gary Rayburn and Glen Thomas. The CEA team featured Mike Tate Ruby Jackson Al Smith Mary Hecksel and Ida Long. The next meeting is planned for 7 45 p m March 12 in the high school library.

Harris County Child Health Clinic March sessions scheduled

The department sets March clinics at Harrison County Building on March 10 from 9 to 11 AM and at Glare City Hall on March 17 from 9 to 11 AM for child health services.

Clare and District Bout Looms at Big Rapids Tournament

Clare high and district hopefuls from Fremont Big Rapids Chippewa Hills and Reed City prepare for the Class B district tourney March 4–8 in Big Rapids. Reed City leads with 15–2 while Clare sits 5–11 as they face a tossup opener Big Rapids vs Chippewa Hills. Reed City crushed Clare 103–67 in a Friday game led by Gary Smith 50 points while Tom Whitfield paced Clare with 24.

Crocus Bloom Bright Sign Of Spring In City Lawn

Bright yellow crocus blossoms emerge on the sheltered lawn of Mrs. Ethard Walters at 7610 Beaverton Rd. Sun warms the patch as nine blooms opened over the weekend. Two blooms brought to the Sentinel office match the cheerful outdoor sunshine.

Fifty Farmers Tour Clare Dairy, Wentworth Operation

Nearly fifty dairy farmers from the Clare area visited the Wentworth Brothers dairy north of Clare at Grant and Surrey Road. The operation milks over one hundred Holstein cows in a warm enclosed setup and uses a liquid manure system. Cows are milked in a double-six herringbone parlor. the group also visited Ron Haines farm in Gladwin County. The noon meal was hosted by Ladies of the Arthur Center Church of God. Two Michigan State University extension specialists, Don Murry and Jim Boyd, attended.

March 18 Deadline For City Candidates

Clare City Clerk Madge Ruark reminds candidates to file petitions by March 18 for the city commissioners election. Registration closes March 7 at 8 PM. those already registered or who have voted since January 1 1967 need not register again. Three city seats are up April 7. terms of Owens Walters and Allen end in 1970. Nominating petitions become available March 7 in City Hall.
