War mothers were entertained by the Clare Study Club. Red Cross War Fund Board planned the 1944 drive under War Fund Chairman Paul Gibson and Secretary-Treasurer Mrs. Harold Fleming. Clare High School girls compose letters to troops. The center invites groups to use rooms for military and war activities with arrangements handled by W. James Olson and Mrs. Mabel Mulder with Mrs. John Schaaf organizing daily access.

Three Youthful Robbers Sent to Jackson Prison
Three of four youthful robbers who looted Harrison stores and gas stations were sentenced last Wednesday. Lloyd Morse aged 17 received two to fifteen years in Jackson, Frank Woods 17 and James Anderson 19 got one and a half to fifteen years, and Sheriff Seaver Amble took them south Thursday morning. Charles Luce 16 awaits further probation officer action. Meeker Meeker of Coleman was released to the Army after a drunk and disorderly sentence and was rejected by the Detroit board to return to jail.

Clare Protestant ministers met at the Methodist church to strengthen fellowship. Attendees included Rev. Hahn Rev. Redman Rev. Cleveland Mrs Garchon and Rev. Watson. Officers elected Rev Watson as chairman and Mrs Gordon as treasurer and secretary. A Good Friday Union Service at the Methodist church from 1 to 3 pm was planned with Rev. Wm. Thompson longtime Clare resident died Friday at his Rosebush home after a brief illness. Born October 4 1870 in Colburg Ontario he was 73 years 4 months 14 days. Survived by wife Sarah Jane Lasher four sons Hughett Fred Donald Floyd two daughters two brothers Floyd Fred Charles two sisters nine grandchildren and many friends. Funeral Monday at Rosebush Methodist Church Rev Hilding Kilgren officiating burial in Isabella Township Cemetery.

Six Children Die as Mt Pleasant Fire Destroys Home
A blaze three miles east of Mt Pleasant on the Indian reservation killed six children and destroyed a two story five room house. The victims were Elmer 16 Clarence 15 Joseph 13 Cecil 12 Rosaline 8 and Henry Jr 4. The mother Mrs Henry Wheaton and four others escaped including Louise 10 Ida Mae 3 Ronnie 17 months. Detective Quentin Dean ruled suffocation from a defective flue. The father works in Detroit for New York Central railroad.
