February Elementary Program to Be Presented at High School

The Early Elementary Department plans a 2:30 PM Friday program in the high school auditorium. Mrs Mildred Carr chairs the event featuring plays and songs by grades from First through Third, including The Simpleton Ty Bong Gypsy Paddier and Our Winter Birds. The Hang Elementary Department will repeat a similar program on the first Friday afternoon of each month to share school work with parents and patrons.

William J Tasker Dies in Detroit Auto Crash

William J Tasker aged 62 was killed when his car struck a concrete post in Detroit last Thursday. He had served as traffic manager of The Detroit News for six years and previously held roles with Flint and Pere Marquette railways. Survived by widow and two brothers, he was married to Winnifred Merrill thirty six years. Funeral held Saturday at Chatham with interment at Oni.

Complainant Withdraws Adultery Case in Clare County

Ellis Hughes of Harrison filed to dismiss the adultery case against Rev. Clarence W. Long. Prosecutor Holbrook requested dismissal and Judge Hart granted the motion. Long was arrested after a damage suit began and a January jury verdict found no cause for action.

Van Conant Couple Celebrate 59th Anniversary at Dover Farm

On February 20 Mr and Mrs P Van Conant observed their fifty ninth wedding anniversary at their Dover farm in Clare county after living in Michigan since 1868. They have a daughter Mrs Geo Dennis a son Edward C Van Conant four granddaughters and nine great grandchildren. A chicken dinner was served and a fireside chat recalled early married life with a surprise ice cream treat from Earl Henderson.

Mrs. Wm. E. Becker dies after long illness

Mary Jane Forsyth Forsyth was born in Washtenaw County Michigan August 14 1872. She taught for ten years after graduating from the State Normal College at Ypsilanti. She married Leonard Fick in 1899 and after his death remarr ied to Wm. Becker. She died February 19 1927 at age 54. Survived by husband two children Louis and Mrs Mark Forsyth and brother Fred Forsyth. Funeral Tuesday Rev A P MacDonald. burial in Cherry Grove.

Respected Sheridan Citizen Died Tuesday

At her home in Sheridan township Tuesday afternoon Mrs. James Allen died after a short illness. The funeral was held from Eagle church Thursday afternoon with interment in Cherry Grove cemetery. A full sketch of her life will be published next week.

Edwin Russell Hunts Large Snowy Owl Near Clare Farm

O. A. Derby reports Edwin Russell shot two snowy owls near his farm southwest of Clare. The larger bird weighed six and a half pounds with a five foot four inch wingspan. Russell says the bird flew sixty rods after being shot before crashing. Several owls have been killed around Clare this season, but this is the largest yet reported.
