Three Clare area elders celebrated milestone birthdays last weekend. Wesley Oliver, 90, hosted friends who brought cakes and gifts while caring for his goats and selling produce. Maggie Marshall’s 86th birthday drew twelve of her thirteen children to East Fourth Street for a family potluck. Julia Hutchinson, 75, was surprised by kin from nearby towns with a four layer cake and baskets. her family noted decades spent in Clare County and in Hagle. Guests traveled from Midland Davison Pint Milford Detroit St Charles Saginaw and Angie.

MEA Members Dinner Meeting in Bay City

Kindergarteners Entertain Their Valentines at Clare School
The Clare Public School kindergarteners entertained mothers grandmothers and younger siblings at two Valentine Parties on February 14. About fifty guests attended each session as children led songs rhythms poems and rhythm bands. Each mother received a special handmade Valentine while cookies decorated by the children were served by several room mothers.

Try Tuneful Telephone Tone Trials at Bell Labs
Bell Telephone Laboratories will run a full state field trial of a new type telephone that signals by a musical tone instead of a bell. The experimental instrument uses transistors to generate a tone under one volt, far lower than the standard bell voltage. Tests show the tone rises above room noise and differentiates from doorbells alarms and fire alarms.

Clare City Hall hosted a Pack meeting on February 13 as 11 new cubs joined making 49 total. Mrs Charles Richter serves as den mother for the new seventh den.
