Arctic Research Nets Major Defense Binding Contract

Arctic Research of Clare won a Defense Supply Agency contract to manufacture 2 300 pairs of ski bindings for military troops at 90 551 000 dollars. W G McGowica says output will reach 500 pairs monthly, with aluminum steel and dacron reinforced rubber fittings, designed for larger military boats and higher insulation.

Clare Bands Set Winter Concert At Clare High

Clare High School will host two bands tonight at 8:00 p.m. in the gym. The Reserve, 46 players, performs Meseta Welsh Folk Suite Sommerleid Music Man Hopak and Rhumba Numbah. The Symphonic Band, 47 players, opens Coat Of Arms Chelsea Suite Change Of Pace Great Italian Movies Sheep And Goat Walking To Pasture Mighty Mite. Proceeds 25 to 75 cents aid band expenses. The concert will be taped for a souvenir record planned for spring release.

Elk Movie to Receive Teddy Award at Outdoor Film Festival

The Conservation Department honors its color sound short From MOWA Michili Wapiti at Higgins Lake February 18 during the fourth National Outdoor Travel Film Festival. Clyde L. Allison produced the film which shares the Teddy award with Wilderness Quest by Redwing Shoe Company for best outdoor documentary.

Police Catch 2 Boys With Stolen Skis

Quick thinking patrol officers Tom DeWitt and Leon Dyke stopped a speeding car on Pine Street Clare. They recovered skis poles broken glass and no ignition key and learned a window at Mott Mountain Ski Lodge was broken with two pairs of skis and a hunting knife taken. Robert Probst 18 of Bay City pleaded guilty February 14 in municipal court with a 115 fine and costs. The other suspect is petitioned to Probate Court.

Hubels Open House Showcases New Morbank Debarker System

Wood industry visitors toured the Hubels Foresters plant at Lake George on Monday to view the new electric and hydraulic Morbank debarker system in operation. Cecil Ed and Orval Hubel offered coffee donuts and refreshments as guests watched the first public showing all day.

Clare Board Reverts to Six Period Day Next Fall

The Clare Board of Education voted unanimously on February 6 to return the secondary school to a six period day next fall, ending the 5-70 schedule used for two years. Superintendent Snyder and high school principal Donald Spencer cited crowding and program problems, noting experience will aid future secondary changes.

Mechanized Farming Display Attracts 200 Attend Clare County

More than two hundred farmers attended the Mechanized Systems Day at the Clare County Road Commission garage near the Mannsiding Interchange on I-75. MSU extension specialists Robert Maddox and Ray Hoglbau spoke on mechanized systems for hay haulage corn silage and investment. Merle Gunden won a mercury lamp door prize from Consumers Power.

NFO Protests to Match Supply with Demand in 25 States

Isabella county NFO members plan a coordinated livestock protest sale to reduce beef pork and dairy supplies. Farmers will ship one bred son to market on Feb 15 and one bred dairy or beef cow on Feb 21 aiming to rebalance supply to match predicted demand. National President Oren Lee Staley outlined the plan at Howell and a milk holding action may occur soon.

The Clare P T A will meet Monday February 20 at 8 p m in the Elementary auditorium to discuss and vote on a fundraising project. 4 H Project Steers Picked in Clare County

Forty eight youths in Clare County Livestock Clubs selected weighed and tagged about 70 steers on February 4 for their 1967 beef projects. Most will compete at the Clare County Fair in August. Each youth may show one steer under the guidance of Bud Dunkle Louis Schmid Jack Roda baugh and Walter Bolle.

Clare man stops hot box on freight train

Lee Green of Clare working on Michigan Bell equipment spotted smoke from a wheel of an east bound freight car near the C and O Railroad. He alerted railroad personnel, the train halted west of Clare and the defective car was removed, potentially averting serious damage and derailment. The 97 car train was involved.
