Locomotive Washing by Spray Bath Cuts Time and Cost
Union Pacific engineers adopt a spray nozzle chamber system to degrease engines in about 80 minutes plus a 30 minute rinse. Eight hundred sixty nozzles dispense caustic solution to strip paint and remove grease, eliminating dismantling and reducing costs to around seventy dollars per engine.
