Loomis Machine Shop completes another big brick press order

The Martin Loomis Machine Shop of Clare finished ten Saginaw method brick presses for Jackson & Church Co of Saginaw. Chief Engineer Ray Olmsted and team verified automated operation tests producing multiple bricks per cycle. The presses use six pockets and full automation, enabling uniform bricks with varied aggregates.

Millard H. Fillmore longtime Midland County resident dies at his Hope farm on February 9 1947 aged 77. Survived by wife Christena Peddie three children seven grandchildren a brother and a sister. Funeral was February 12 at Hope Methodist Church with burial at North Hope Cemetery.

Boy Scout Rally at Farwell School Monday Evening

A Boy Scout Rally and Court of Honor will be held at 7:00 p m on Monday February 17 in the Farwell High School gymnasium. Scouts from all Clare county will attend along with guests. The program includes music speeches Camp Rotary films and slides of the Canadian trip. Valley Trails Council officials Klapp and Goodell will attend. An award will be given to the troop with the highest attendance.

Clare's 1947 basketball independents routed Luther 74 to 21 at the Clare high school gym on Monday night. The Rockets have beaten Harrison Mt. Sugar Ration to Add Ten Pounds Per Person April First

County 4-H Club Council Formed at Midwinter Meet

Clare county 4-H leaders formed a county council at the midwinter meeting January 28. Mrs. Marion Magnus presided, Earl Simmons and Mrs. Nether Darling named officers, with Hull and Mrs. Mark Schunk elected as directors. The council will support county 4-H activities and plan programs and events, linking local units to the county extension office. Spring Achievement Day is set for April 30 at Harrisots.

Clare Public Schools present an annual minstrel show featuring students from primary to senior classes and local townspeople. The Clare Ministerial Association met in the Methodist Church for a noon luncheon on February 12. William Murphy Dies of Heart Attack in Grand Rapids

William Murphy a Harrison merchant and funeral director died Friday February 7 1947 after collapsing at the Morton Hotel Grand Rapids while attending the Republican State Convention. Born August 8 1879 in Stoughton Wisconsin he moved to Harrison with his parents as a child and lived there most of his life. He served Harrison High School as janitor and later taught school in the county before returning to business duties with Hughes Brothers.

Former Clare County resident Effie Myers dies in Owosso

Effie L. Myers 72 formerly of Clare county died February 9 1947 at her Owosso home after pneumonia. She was born Effie Bender in Van Wert Ohio in 1874 and married Win Earl Myers in 1904. Survived by husband three sons Chester and Gerald in Lansing Ralph in Owosso a sister and two brothers with five grandchildren. Funeral at Clare Methodist Church led by Rev. Chas Kleinhardt after services at Lyons Chapel Owosso.
