Citizens Asked To Donate Blood At Clare Clinic

Clare city hall hosts a blood donor station from February 28 to March 8 with sessions 1 3 pm Mondays 7 9 pm Mondays and 9 11 am 1 3 pm other days. Michigan Department of Health equipment, Red Cross registration, canteen by Eastern Star, and local committees coordinate donor details and eligibility. Donors 18 50 years old, weight at least 115 pounds, with parental consent for 18 21, must register at Clare Harrison or Farwell post offices.

Fritzie Faber Dies After Bay City Hospital Operation

Funeral services were held for eight and a half year old Fritzie Faber of Denver township who died at Samaritan Hospital Bay City January 27 after a second operation. He was a second grade pupil at Bader school and survived by parents Fred and Mary Ellen Faber and other relatives. Burial followed in Denver cemetery with four school mates as pallbearers. A sister and a brother died in infancy.

Tuberculin X-ray Clinic Set for Clare City Hall

The Michigan Tuberculosis Association mobile unit will be at Clare city hall health office on Wednesday February 16 from 9:00 am to noon for TB xray examinations for adults and children. A tuberculin test clinic for preliminary exams runs Monday February 14 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Early preventive care can arrest infection in tuberculosis.

Clare Community Council Elects 1944 Officers

The Clare Community Council met February 9 in the Clare School Commercial Room with thirteen members present. Emil Pfister introduced Carl Horn who outlined a state backed plan to aid returning service members with job placement and rehabilitation in Clare, one of thirteen Michigan communities chosen for experimental work. The council unanimously agreed to sponsor the project and elect officers: Chairman Emil Pfister, Vice Chairman John Rodabaugh, Secretary Treasurer Mrs. N A Elden, and executive members Dominic McConnell Conrad Walker Rev Harold Watson Robert Archambault Adelaide Elden.

Lemon Tree Bears Fruit at White's Greenhouse

A three foot lemon tree at White's Greenhouse is bearing fruit with some fruit measuring twelve inches in circumference and weighing about two pounds each. The plant shows buds blossoms and developing fruit while Mr and Mrs Edward White report the fruit has a real flavor.

Boy Scout Rally and Dinner Held in Clare

About 200 people including scouts leaders and parents gathered at Clare Public School gym Monday for the Annual Clare Isabella District Boy Scout pot luck dinner and rally. Rev Harold Watson offered the invocation and a program of demonstrations and talks followed.

Jake Williams Dies at Home on Maple Street

Jake Williams an Indian resident dies at his Maple Street home Tuesday evening at age seventy one. Survived by his son Pete and two grandchildren. Funeral services set for 2:00 PM Saturday at the Indian church near Rosebush in Denver township with Rev. Jim Peters officiating. Interment in Delwin cemetery. Andrew Friz in charge of arrangements.

Local Red Cross Units Busy With War Activities

Local Red Cross rooms hosted busy war relief work making 100 overseas kit bags and hospital supplies like pajamas bathrobes bed socks and card table covers. Volunteers listed include Mrs Henry Ackerman Mrs Frank Murdoch Mrs Fred Pierson and others. a new evening unit starts Thursday at seven under Mrs J Ragsat at seven. Wednesday group led by Mrs Pearl Pidd reports good attendance.

Income Tax Explained at Clare County MEA Meeting

Clare County Michigan Educational Association will hold a public meeting in the Clare Public School auditorium on Monday February 14 at 730 PM. Theo Wallington of Citizens State Bank will explain income tax return filing and answer questions for teachers in the community. The MEA will also elect two delegates to the Classroom Teachers Convention in Lansing in March.

J Henry Hoover Dies in Edmore Hospital at 82

J Henry Hoover longtime Greenwood and Vernon resident died at Edmore hospital on Tuesday January 25 after a short illness of acute pneumonia aged 82 years 11 months and 12 days. Funeral services were held at the Edmore Adventist church on Thursday January 27 with J R Shull of Cedar Lake Academy officiating and burial followed in Cherry Grove Cemetery Clare. The life story will be published next week.

Farwell Brinton Loo f Consolidate Lodges Last Wed

Odd Fellows and Rebekahs from Central Michigan Lodges gathered in Farwell for a consolidation ceremony of the Farwell and Brinton Lodges. Grand Master Charlie Leonard conducted the rite with Grand Secretary Glenn Hammel and Miss Vetta Timpson in attendance. A banquet followed as Leonard praised regional Odd Fellowship and noted child delinquency gains.

Obituary: John F. Kirchhoff Jr. Dies in Fork Township Accident

John F. Kirchhoff Jr. a Clare resident and Ashby Drilling Co employee, died after a head injury at 9 p.m. Wednesday from a derrick accident south of Sears Fork in Mecosta County. Born April 18 1898 in Chicago he leaves wife Ruth Benworth two daughters Bette and Joyce and son Jack, plus his mother sister and brother. Army Navy college qualifying tests set for Clare High School

The third Army Navy College Qualifying Test for the ATSP and Navy V-12 will be held March 15 at 9 00 a m at Clare High School. Applicants aged 17 to 21 who are high school graduates or will be by July 1 1944 may take the test. The test is non obligating and results may lead to government funded college work and possible Navy commission after officer training.

Emergency waste paper collection urged in Clare County

An emergency waste paper collection will occur across Clare County next Monday to support war material packing. Students, families, and the public are asked to gather newspapers magazines cardboard cartons paper bags and more and deliver them by nine o clock to schools or collection points.

Include name and address. slips will be returned with the check. January rates: 5 cents per pound butterfat and 36 cents per hundredweight milk. Final January payment date February 29.
