Cook Named Clare City Police Chief After Vote

Uniforms arrived Tuesday for the Clare High School Band ahead of the Oscoda festival. New Organ Gift Brings Music to Gilmore Church

Clare man commits suicide in city jail
Sherman Bruner 43 of Clare died in a jail cell last Wednesday night apparently by hanging with his own belt. Officer Bill Cook found him in a low bunk position around eleven. coroner Dr L D Kassa said autopsy showed strangulation linked to alcoholism. Bruner was arrested after his estranged wife found him in a car near her East Sixth Street workplace. Body sent to Hall Funeral Home at Gladwin.

Plan for a new road from cemetery to US 27

Clare County approves the 1956 budget with tax receipts rising to 183600 and expenditures up 900 over 1955. The board sets equalized valuations near 559 of 1955 State figures, rescinding October’s 1954 yardstick and adopting updated State Tax Commission figures. Ten county offices gain, Welfare tops with a 4000 increase, total operating cost to 1836000 over last year. City and town totals show Clare at 3335300 and countywide equalized valuations near 14989494.

FFA Boys Visit Michigan State During Farm Week
Forty three boys with Agriculture teacher Floyd Norcutt visited Michigan State University on February 1 for Farm Week. Arnold Ott Named Vice President of Padlow-Néase
Dr. Arnold G. Ott has been named vice-president and director at Padlow-Néase Chemical Company of Lock Haven Pennsylvania. The firm makes chemical intermediates and pharmaceutical raw materials.
