Clare High School Pioneers push win total to eight in a row by edging Reed City 28 to 22 at Reed City. Ben Coffman led Reed City with a late lead and Art Clute tied the game before Jim Ryan won it with a free throw. Little Pioneers also beat Reed City 24 22 and then defeated Coleman 40 21 on their home floor for nine straight victories. Wes Samborn and Carl Cappaert led Varsity with 17 points each.

Mt Vernon Grange Honors Anniversary Of Officers
Snow kept many away but about twenty members gathered at the Slentz home to celebrate a golden wedding anniversary. Grange opened by Jennings Archambault with officers present including Chaplin Mrs Slentz and secretary Mr Slentz who recently became secretary for Nellie White. Missionary From China Speaks at Baptist Church
Mr. and Mrs. Leon Osborn, missionaries of China, spoke at the Baptist Church about their work and experiences in China. Mr. Osborn described China during the Japanese attack and both answered questions after the Wednesday and Sunday services. The couple have served in China for thirty six years.

Noted minister dies at home of son in Detroit
The Rev. D. C. Stucky founder and superintendent of the Detroit City Rescue Mission died Tuesday of last week at the home of his son Samuel D. Stucky in Detroit. The mission opened February 14 1909 and expanded through aid from churches. Funeral services were held in Detroit with memorial to be conducted at Dover Tabernacle on Sunday.

City Plow Chief Clears Snow Drifts With Handbuilt Plow
City engineer Harve Erter battled heavy snow with state and county crews. He improvised a V type plow from a used county truck unit, attached it to a city tractor, and, with Bill Dunlop assisting, cleared sidewalks after the worst storm in years. Ernest Stevens Dies Suddenly at 71 in Flint
Ernest Stevens long time Clare resident died at his daughter’s home in Flint after a stroke Sunday evening. Born January 25 1872 in Monroe County Michigan he lived in Clare most of his life, worked in mill work, and after a 1939 accident lost a limb. He is survived by his wife Minnie two daughters Mrs Russell Berry Flint and Mrs Pike Pontiac son Vernon M Stevens of Pontiac four brothers Harry Chicago Allen Monroe Harley Shepherd and Ralph Clare with many relatives.
