Former Pastor and Grocer Rev J A Allen Dies in Nashville

Rev J A Allen a Nashville former pastor of Clare Free Methodist Church and longtime local grocer died Monday at age eighty six at his brother in law Chay Meade's home near Nashville. Funeral services were held in Nashville and at Clare Baptist Church with Rev L W Gibbs officiating. burial followed beside his wife in Cherry Grove cemetery.

June Prudden Burned at Temple Home

Miss June Prudden twelve year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Prudden of Temple was badly burned at her home when her clothing touched a faulty oil stove. The flames were smothered by her family and she was taken to Glare Hospital for treatment. doctors report her burns as first to third degree and her condition improving.

Grant Pioneer Joseph H Squires Laid to Rest in Clare Cemetery

Joseph Harris Squires born November 22 1875 near Chatham Ontario died January 19 1943 at age 67 in Grant Township after a year of illness. He lived in Genesee county and Clare from 1890 worked in mills and a tub and pail factory helped his nephew Floyd Squires in Grant Township for five years. He never married leaves brother LeRoy Saginaw half sister Augusta Wallis Dresden Ontario two nieces six nephews and many relatives and friends. Mr and Mrs Floyd Squires cared for him until his death with cheerful acceptance of his fate.

Clare Methodists Re dedicate Newly Remodeled Church Kitchen

The Clare Methodist Church celebrated a multi month remodeling with a dedicatory service and fellowship dinner on Sunday January 24. The Local Women’s Society of Christian Service enlarged the kitchen and updated facilities including new cupboards, sinks, a steam table, and improved ventilation. Additional improvements were made in the dining room beginner’s department and Sunday School rooms with new cupboards and tables.
