Drive For Crippled Children Society Grows in Clare County
In May 1927 Clare County Michigan formed a county chapter of the Society for Crippled Children. A committee organized the drive and 232 members contributed one dollar each. A clinic and school district survey are planned to aid crippled children, with permanent officers to be elected at the annual meeting. The list of members includes numerous Clare and Harrison residents and officials.

Hibernated Wood Chuck Attracts Noted Interest
Bay City salesman BR Moore of the Schust Company picked up a hibernated woodchuck in a straw stack at a Long Lake area store seven miles north of Harrison. The four pound animal curled in a dormant ball remained inactive despite warmth and travel. Hunters and trappers noted it as an unusual specimen.

First Annual Clare Vacation Club Rabbit Dinner
The Clare Vacation Club held its first annual meeting at the Congregational church parlors with a rabbit dinner. Rev H B Johnson organized the event and served as chef with Paul Koch assisting. Christmas Program Delights Congregational Sunday School
A large crowd gathered at the Congregational church for the primary department Christmas program. Children performed recitations songs dialogues and plays with a painted log cabin scenery and a moonlit backdrop. Santa Claus and his reindeer distributed candy boxes to the delighted youngsters after a well received evening.

Judge Upholds Conviction For Sale Of Malt
Judge Hawley refused to rule the state prohibition law unconstitutional in the malt syrup sale case. Charles Christensen of Greenville was found guilty in Stanton circuit court after he defied sheriff and prosecutor orders to remove the product from shelves. The trial raised questions about the constitutionality of the term intoxicating liquor and the judge directed a guilty verdict with no factual questions for the jury.

Ice fishing rules permit five lines on inland lakes
Deputy Game Warden Pettit announces that sportsmen may fish through the ice during January February and March with five lines on all inland lakes. Washington Barris of Temple, 74, is jailed in Clare County on a statutory offense accusation involving his two granddaughters aged five and seven.
