Centenarian farmer still vigorous near Clare
William Shaffer, age 100, lives on a farm eight miles southeast of Clare with his son. Born in Ohio, of Dutch and Cherokee descent, he joined his Civil War era family story, cleared forty acres in Ohio, and after moving to Michigan in 1904 he and his wife cleared eighty acres. He remains active, recalls his youth, and rose from a paralytic stroke at sixty-five to strong health. He married 63 years ago. his wife, 78, tends a large flock and garden.

Evart Club Plans Children's Party at Lyric Theatre
The Exchanged Club of Wvart expects to host about one thousand children from Evart and surrounding areas on Saturday. They rented the Lyric Theatre for a free feature film and will give each child a chocolate bar and animal crackers, with many local groups offering favors for the youngsters.

Clare High Loses To Reed City In Varsity Tilt
Clare high school suffered a 16 to 8 defeat at Reed City last Friday while their junior varsity beat Shepherd 27 to 12. Reed City led from the first field goal, and Clare’s midgets won 18 to 7 in a fast game. An alumni charity game is planned for next Thursday with a large turnout hoped for.
