Hog Prices Seen Rising by Mid Summer 1996
Michigan State University farm economists forecast hog prices rebounding to about 14 to 316 per hundredweight by mid summer 1996 with 2 percent fewer hogs this winter and a rebound in spring. They expect higher prices next fall to match last autumn and urge producers to market spring pigs quickly. Antibiotics boost calf growth 10 to 36 percent in first 16 weeks with no further gains expected before marketing. Farm economists project food prices to average the same or slightly lower next year.
