A tagged rainbow trout weighing about four pounds was caught by John Dolansky in Bear Creek Mani stee county after a 13 month journey. The fish reportedly traveled through two power dams Hodenpyle and Tippy, then into the Manistee River near M 72 after an earlier release, with scientists noting time in Lake Michigan may explain its rapid growth.

Holiday Crash Claims Life of Gene Vollmer
Gene Vollmer 25 of Pontiac died Wednesday afternoon from injuries suffered in a Christmas morning auto crash on US 27 north of Clare. His car hit ice, left the road and struck a tree. He was taken to Clare General Hospital with brain concussion and internal injuries. He was a former Harrison resident, son of Bertha Vollmer and the late George Vollmer, employed by General Tire in Flint. Funeral services set for Saturday at 2 PM at United Brethren Church in Harrison.

The Michilimackinac Chapter of the D A R met in Clare on Tuesday December 20 with Mrs Donald Hol brook presiding. New member Maude McFarland Rosebush welcomed. essays on the History Project read from two schools. Plans for a tea and reception for Good Citizen girls and mothers were made at the Hol brook home in January. Frances Glover Midland John Alden Chapter spoke on women descendants of soldiers and officers and read a paper by Helen Peters Wilson on the Battle of Washington and river confluence. Lunch followed, with Joyce Holbrook assisting.

William Holmes 68 of Clare died December 26 at Saginaw Veteran's Hospital after a three year illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from Stephenson Funeral Home with Rev. Leslie Nevins officiating and American Legion post conducting burial at Cherry Grove Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, four brothers, two stepsons and three grandchildren.

Irma Belle Pluff 47 of Frankfort was ticketed for reckless driving December 26 after her car struck an oncoming vehicle on East Fifth Street. The other driver, Alvin James Brancheau of Dearborn, a railroad conductor, had pulled from Hemlock Street and was hit as Pluff’s car traveled west. A third parked car owned by Stuart Gordon Bell was damaged. A separate December 22 incident saw Lester Moyer of Clare back into an oncoming car, cited for DUI. Ice on West Fifth led to a collision December 2 at the Fifth Street light when Margaret Sherman hit Claude Glass after failing to stop. Sherman was cited for failure to stop in an assured clear distance. Howard Bennett of R-3 Harrison stopped for a left turn December 27 and was struck in the left rear by Andrew VanderPol of Marion, who was cited for failure to stop in an assured rear distance. Wayne Walters was arrested December 21 at Menthen's Cafe for disorderly conduct and fined $14.30 in Clare Municipal Court.

A Flint resident named Don Ellis stopped at Roy Cimmerer’s drug store during deer season and forgot four dollars in change. He later mailed a note to Cimmerer describing the incident. Adult School Class Opening Announced
Winter term enrollment for Clare Public School adult evening classes will be held January 10 and 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. Courses run through March 19 with a $3 fee for most subjects and higher prices for select classes. Navy Recruits May Go South to San Diego
One third of men enlisting in the U S Navy in January to March will train at San Diego California. Chief Johnnie Plummer, Navy recruiter, said twenty two vacancies are open at the Cadillac naval recruiting office including twelve for high school training programs. He notes graduates can choose their school preference when they enlist. A Navy recruiter visits Clare each Friday afternoon at the draft board office on Fifth Street.

On Christmas Day 1897 Jonah and Mrs. Ervin near Rosebush celebrated 67 years of marriage. He is 89 and she 84. They raised 12 children and have 36 grandchildren 50 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. The couple lived in Canada before settling near Rosebush in 1910.
