Fire at the Archie Ackerman farm one mile east and one mile south of Clare destroyed a tool shed containing a tractor and damaged the granary but neighbors and the Clare rural fire truck saved the adjoining garage, barn, and granary. Insurance partially covers the Ackerman loss.

Mrs. Lelah Van Fleet Peirce widow of G A Peirce died Sunday December 2 at Sparrow Hospital Lansing. She rests in the Peirce lot at Howell. Survived by brother Carl V Van Fleet of DeWitt sister in law widow of Hari Van Feet and her son of Detroit.
Mr and Mrs Glenn Doren will lead services at Clare Baptist Church on Sunday December 30 with Mr Doren delivering the message and his wife performing special songs. Doren is a Farwell businessman and Gideons worker.

Mrs Jennie Bertha Biebush Gardner a Vernon township pioneer for forty seven years died Friday at Clare Hospital after a month long illness She was born December 17 1868 in Herman Missouri married Lemuel Gardner December 5 1891 moved from Huntington Indiana to Vernon county She is survived by three sons Ed Bob Tom four daughters seventeen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren Private funeral services were held at the family home Sunday with Rev Thomson Rosebush officiating and burial at Riverside Cemetery Mt Pleasant.
Doris Bertrand died at University Hospital in Ann Arbor on Thursday evening December 14 after a fifteen day confinement. Born May 5, 1915 in Waldenburg, she was 30. She lived in Roseville and Farwell with husband Maynard Bertrand and left three children Gerald Lloyd Marilyn. Survived by father William Stier and stepmother, two sisters, four brothers, and many relatives. Funeral services were held at 2:30 and 3:00 pm December 16 at Waldenburg Lutheran Church with Rev. George Sébold officiating. Burial in Waldenburg Cemetery.

Mrs Flossie Anna Lutzi died Tuesday at Samaritan Hospital Bay City after a goiter operation. Funeral services were held Friday at the Amble school with Rev George J Huhst officiating and burial in Cedar Crest Cemetery Hamilton township. She was 43, born October 23 1902 in Gladwin county and survived by husband Rolla Allen Lutzi five children two sisters and two brothers and several relatives.
Grove Brothers 5e and 10c store employees held a Christmas party and chicken supper at Barnes Cafe on Friday night December 21. Gifts were exchanged and carols sung. Attendees included Virginia Hoffman Violet Randall Rose Athey Effie Hales Clela Hartman June Coveart Sadie Ogle Laurel Osbotte Nancy Grove and Mr and Mrs J L Grove.
St Cécilia's Council of Catholic Women holds monthly meetings the Thursday of each month at 8:00 p m in the church auditorium or parish room.
George August Krug born July 30 1881 in Grundy County Illinois married Caroline Kraft on November 30 1907. He moved to Sheridan Township Clare County Michigan in 1908 and died December 19 1945 at Clare Hospital from heart leakage. He leaves a widow one son Loren two daughters Miss Rose Krug Mrs Margaret Cotton and Mrs Frieda Petersen two grandchildren and several siblings. Funeral services held December 21 1945 at St Johns Ho Lutheran Church with burial in Cherry Grove cemetery.
The Clare Kiwanis Club met at the Hotel Doherty for dinner and officer installation. President Art Damoth introduced Tim Cotter as installing officer. Austin Bates became president with Leo Brown as vice president. Jack Little received a Kiwanis pin and joined as a new member. The board re-elected Ace Parker secretary-treasurer and set 1946 directors.
The Mt. Vernon Grange hall hosts a dance and card party on Friday January 1 1946. Local organizers urge community participation and plan a social evening with games and dancing.
Courtney Bauer and his brother William drove to Detroit on Saturday to pick up Courtney’s new two passenger Piper Cub trainer. Bauer, a Piper dealer in the area, plans to display the aircraft at Mt. Pleasant airport and expects more planes soon. He was the first Clare resident to own a plane and will move his headquarters back to the local field when the Clare airport is reconditioned.
Harriet I Peirce Wilson died November 23 1945 after a long family life in Clare Big Rapids Alma and Chicago. Memorial services set for Clare Congregational Church December 30 at 3 00 PM with interment in Cherry Grove cemetery.

Funeral services were held at the family home with Rev. Charles B. Hahn officiating. interment Cherry Grove cemetery.
