The Clare Pioneers erased an early Coleman lead to win 24-16 behind a strong second half as Joslin and Newman each scored six. The Junior varsity fell 26-15 in their game.

William C. Prentiss born February 28 1874 in Lenawee Michigan died December 9 1946 in Mt Pleasant aged 71 years 9 months and 11 days Funeral services held December 11 at Lake George Baptist Church with Rev Harl Redman officiating Interment Lincoln Township Cemetery He left a wife Alice M Evang and five children Beatrice Hoisington Henry W Prentiss Wilma Vogt and Lynn Prentiss plus one infant daughter deceased Money invested in Victory Bonds urged to aid in bringing the boys home.

Congregational Christmas Service Sunday Morning

A special Christmas service will be held at the Congregational Church on Sunday December 23 at 10 30 AM. The Senior choir performs Oh Come to My Heart Jesus and Joy to the World while EB K Heyser conducts God With Us. A decorated tree enhances the church auditorium and the minister’s topic is Joy to the World. Members and friends are invited to attend.

Death of Mrs J Becker from heart attack in Michigan

Mrs J Becker died suddenly on December 12 at about 7 10 AM from a heart attack. She aged seventy two and left a husband two sons and one daughter with five grandchildren. Funeral services were held December 16 at St Johns Ev Lutheran Church Hamilton Township and burial followed in the church cemetery.

Clare County Red Cross Holds Annual Meeting

Clare County Chapter of the American Red Cross met in Clare City Hall on December 10 with Mrs. Ruth Pidd presiding. Reports by Home Service Chairman Madge B. Lamb showed 266 veteran and family cases and 1138 miles traveled. units reported 2159 articles 132 knitted pieces and 55 layettes completed for shipment. Officers elected for the coming year include Clare County Chairman Mabel K. Horton and a slate of vice chairmen and a production chairwoman.

Midnight Mass and Christmas Pageant at St. Cecilia's

A devotional midnight Mass is prepared at St. Cecilia's Church for Christmas Eve with the Mass of St. Aloysius, a children's choir, and an indoor crib. William A. Oden Dies at Traverse Home at 80

William A. Oden dies December 12 1945 at his Traverse City residence aged 80 years two months twenty two days. Born September 20 1865 in Southern Illinois he lived in Ohio Michigan and finally Farwell Clare and Traverse City where he raised a family. He belonged to the United Brethren Church and the I O O F lodge for fifty five years. Funeral planned at Thurston Funeral Home Clare with Surrey Township Cemetery interment and LO O F lodge pallbearers.

Farm Income Tax Filing Time Same As Last Year

Michigan State College farm management reports that the filing rules are unchanged. Either an estimate or final return is due by January 15, 1946. if the final return can be filed earlier, the estimate is unnecessary. If an estimate is filed, the final return is due by March 15. Farmers using a tax year other than the calendar year may file 15 days after their year end. The full tax must accompany the final return.

Power Company Rebates 20 Percent of December Bills

Consumers Power will rebate 20 percent of December bills totaling about $1,000,000 to electric gas and steam heat customers. The Michigan Public Service Commission directed the move to benefit customers after wartime taxes reduce net income. The Sentinel will remain closed to allow staff to observe Christmas with families. Community news must be in the mails by Monday and air. advertising copy should be sent one day early to ensure The Sentinel appears in the malls on time.

Death of Dick Logic in Clare County Auto Wreck

Dick Logic 54 died instantly from a skull fracture when his car left a curve east of Clare cemetery and rolled, dragging him along the ground. Coroner said death was instantaneous. Funeral services were held at St. Cecilia's Church with interment at St. Cecilia's Cemetery.
