Former Clare teacher Cora Schafer dies at 59
Miss Cora M. Schafer of 311 North Webster Street Saginaw died Monday December 13 at Bald win Rest Home at age 59. Born December 24 1888 in Richland Montcalm County she taught in Clare Public Schools and in Michigan cities before joining North Intermediate in Saginaw in 1926 and later Fuerbing ser School. Funeral services were held from Case Chapel Saginaw with Rev Stanford S Closson officiating and interment at Thetford Cemetery Clio.

Leo Carney dies suddenly from heart attack in Sheridan
Leo Carney a 52 year old electrical construction worker with L B Myers Construction Co died at his home in Sheridan township Sunday after a heart attack. He had lived in the area five years and was married to Ruth Larson of Clare with two daughters Nancy Ann Leona and two stepchildren Shirley and Hart. A prayer service was held at Thurston Funeral Home and his remains were taken to Newago for funeral services.

Two Local Boys Struck By Freight Engine At Clare Crossing
Two Clare youths escaped serious injury when their auto was struck by a westbound Pere Marquette freight at Maple street crossing. George White, 22, stopped the car after attempting to brake, but the engine hit the right front wheel, flipped the vehicle onto the sidewalk, and into a workers' car. Robert White, 17, suffered a back strain while George was uninjured.

In eight communities the Clare County farmers chose AAA committeemen for 1944 on December 17. Delegates from Arthur, Hamilton, Franklin, Hayes, Hatton Frost, Grant, Garfield Surrey Freeman Lincoln, Redding Summerfield Greenwood, Sheridan and Winterfield townships elected chairmen, vice chairmen, and regular members. The county committee was formed December 18 with Robert C. Kleiner as chairman and Franklin F. Littlefield as vice chairman, with Arthur A. Lower as regular member and Andrew J. Fourteen year old Maxine Waite dies at Averill home
Maxine Waite aged fourteen years ten months and twenty six days died at her Averill Michigan home after four months of heart illness. She was the oldest child of Mr and Mrs Harl Waite of Averill and granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Chris Reger of Clare. Survivors include two brothers Max and Harold and sister Nancy. Funeral services were held at the Bradley Funeral Home in Midland with Rev Edgar Smith and interment was in Midland cemetery.

Papers must be original discharge documents, no copies, and will be returned. Office hours 8 15 a m to 5 p m daily except Sundays. Buttons issued to all honorably discharged since September 8, 1939 including officers enlisted men WAS and WAAC transfers. Each person receives one button worn on coat lapel. replacements via Adjutant General in Washington, D C.
