Clare Pioneers Edge St Louis and Fall to Harrison

Clare High School lost to Harrison High 20 to 19 after a tight county seat battle. St Louis High School defeated Clare 31 to 22 with Jim Kane leading Clare scorers. The program announced a January 7 return game in St Louis and a home game January 21.

Midnight Mass at St Henry’s Church Christmas Eve

Midnight Mass will be sung at St Henry’s Church in Rosebush with a festive setting of poinsettias evergreen trees wreaths and multicolored lights. The electric steeple chimes will play Christmas melodies from 11 00 p m until the procession begins to the high altar at 9 55 p m. The choir has a special program and the organist will perform two solos on the Aeolian Harp. Father Grant will preach about the Saviour born this day in the city of David. The service is open to the public with extra seating installed.

Clare High School senior Rosemary Wright daughter of Mr and Mrs Chas M Wright was chosen by students and faculty to represent Clare in the D A R Good Citizen Pilgrimage. She is noted for dependability service leadership and patriotism and will travel to Mt Pleasant to select a area representative for the State D A R convention and pilgrimage to Washington D C

Clare County School Board Meeting Draws Wide Attendance

County school board members from rural and city districts gathered Tuesday evening at Clare High School. Prominent educators spoke on school law finance and teacher relations. Attendees included Howard Prine Eldon Robins Supt Austin Bates and Herbert Marshall.

At a November meeting the Clare Rod and Gun Club discussed creating a safe bathing area north of the Consumers Power dam. They propose filling the bayou to safe depths using high banks for fill and a retaining barrier before dam replacement, seeking permits or leases to promote the project for community enjoyment.

Saturday Mail Delivery in Clare Due to Christmas Volume

Unusually high Christmas mail requires Saturday afternoon delivery in Clare. City carriers will deliver letters and all post office arrivals will be handled in the afternoon, reducing need for patrons to visit the post office. Rural deliveries will proceed as well.

Clare School Christmas Musicale Monday at 8 PM

The annual Christmas musicale will be presented Monday evening December 20 at 8 00 in the Clare High School auditorium. The program features vocal numbers by the elementary chorus high school girls glee club junior high school chorus and first second and third grade choruses plus solos duets and the Little Symphony. Gladwin youths plead guilty to larceny charge

Sheriff Seaver Amble investigated the sale of nineteen turkeys stolen from Louis Wariner in Grant township. Rob ert Allen, 17, Grainville Southwell, 17, and Don Grove, 16, appeared with Judge Hart. Grove’s case was waived by Judge Bates as he neared seventeen. All pleaded guilty and await sentencing. Prosecution was by Joseph K. Naumes. Lee Noe and Clifford Welch, of Alma, were released after serving ten days for carrying shot guns in a deer area during closed season.

Navy Boys to Sing at Clare Baptist Church Sunday

A group of Navy Boys from Mt. Pleasant College will sing at the First Baptist Church of Clare Michigan Sunday morning. The Blue Jacket quartet will perform during the worship service with possible additional vocal groups and a speaker. The event aims to draw attendees to morning worship and potentially an evening service.

Clare County Red Cross annual meeting reports active year

The Clare County Chapter of the American Red Cross held its annual meeting at the Clare Cuy Library on Tuesday December 7 with representatives from Harrison Clare Winterfield Franklin Greenwood and Hatton Units. The year saw 7200 garments shipped and 567 Junior Red Cross items sent to hospitals and centers including scrapbooks and Thanksgiving favors. The treasurer reported 1060.38 on hand and 6202.68 receipts for the year with 4659.32 spent leaving 1543.36.

Firemen Save Home as Pump House Burns Near Clare Harrison

The pump house at Charlie Van Blarcom’s farm home two miles west and half a mile south of Harrison burned at 9:00 PM Sunday. Clare and Harrison fire crews with neighbors fought the blaze that threatened the house and stored belongings. Loss included a cream separator, washing machine, gasoline engine, four tons of coal, wood, and household furnishings stored in the attic. The fire likely started from an airtight stove. damage was partially covered by insurance.
