Elias Riegle a Civil War veteran and Clare's oldest resident marked his 91st birthday at a dinner hosted by Mrs. Julia Derby. Attendees included Effie Saul and Wilma Jean Dover, Robert Hudson of Owosso, and Louisa Riegle. Born 1846 near Buffalo, he joined the 78th New York Infantry in 1864 under Sherman, later settling in Michigan and Clare County.

Man Dies In Fire At Redding Township Home
Frank Sottloski, 60, living alone in a home on Henry Austin’s property, burned to death in a morning fire in Redding township near Temple. He was last seen Wednesday evening in Temple buying kerosene. Authorities believe he woke to smoke, escaped outside eight feet from the entrance, then perished. A head on collision nine miles north of Harrison killed three people and injured several others. The victims were Elsie Paircloth 20 Douglas W Isbister 20 and Mrs Andrew Johnston 60. State Police Sheriff and Coroner investigated. The Johnston car carried six people home from Lansing for holidays.
