Fréda Hudson, son of Joseph and Rachel Hudson, born December 16 1873 in Ionia, lived in Clare area, served as first rural mail carrier out of Clare, later judge of the peace, and longtime church leader. He died December 14 1954 at age 80 after a lengthy illness, survived by daughter, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his second wife Edith Vogell Cole. Funeral held December 17 at Thurston Funeral Home with burial at Cherry Grove cemetery.

Fatal US-27 collision claims Port Arthur man
A car traveling south on US-27 about 9 15 am struck a patch of ice and collided head on with a tree five and half miles north of the city. David McCormick of Port Arthur Ontario died at the scene. His wife was seriously injured and hospitalized at Clare Hospital. Coroner Carl Stephenson investigated the crash.

Mrs Dobson Hurt By Car In Downtown McHwan
81-year-old Mrs Bertha Dobson suffered a fractured ankle after being struck by a car driven by Clyde Kaiser 65 of Shepherd on Fifth Street light in McEwan on Tuesday at 2 20. Driver said sun reflection on windshield blinded him and he did not see her. Dobson taken to Clare Hospital Kaiser not held.

County Co Of C Plans Jail Museum In Clare County
The Clare Chamber of Commerce discussed turning the present County jail at Harrison into a museum after a new jail is built and appointed a committee to outline the plan for the County Board of Supervisors. A Clare County Snow Festival was tentatively discussed for this winter with a final decision set for January 19. Members from Jake, Farwell, Harrison, and Clare attended the dinner at the Doherty Hotel.

He worked as a meat cutter, helped found Farmers Produce Co and later ran small jobs. He served eleven terms on the Clare Council, held John Q Look Lodge No 404 membership, and attended Clare Baptist Church. A high school Christmas concert by the band and choral groups drew a near capacity crowd. Lloyd Conley led the band and Nancy Keller the vocal program with bands and quartets in formal dress and new robes. Notable numbers included White Christmas and Jingle Bells with Beautiful Savior Dona Nobis Pacem Tayzual Christmas Song and Sleigh Ride among the choruses offerings. The girls quartet Marilyn Smith Twila Beery Bonnie Stanley Lydabelile Bicknell sang Sleigh Ride The Christmas Song and The Holly and The Ivy with the boys group Let It Snow and other arrangements. A noon Rotary Club feature repeated several pieces from the program.

Two Die As Freight Hits Car In Farwell
Farwell police and state investigators report two men died instantly when their 1954 Studebaker collided with an oncoming freight train on South Hall Street near the Farwell Lumber Yard Saturday night December 18 just after 10. The victims are Thomas Cook 64 of R-2 and Arthur Miles 75 of R-2. Miles had a son and daughter but lived alone. Funeral services for Miles were held at Coker's in Farwell Tuesday. Cook was married with ten children and funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Coker's with burial in Gilmore cemetery.

Clare residents expect relief from rusty water as a new four inch test well is drilled north of the railroad, in line with John R. Sr. The bid by Hugh Nelson at two dollars per foot is accepted, with state approval pending water quality and quantity. An option to buy property owned by T. H. Meconica III is under consideration. The city’s highway cleaning contract with the State proceeds on schedule and snow removal and sanding have been effective. A renovated old plow may cover winter needs. no new plow is planned this year.
