Clare High School presents its fourth annual Christmas concert this evening featuring CHS band and chorus in uniform. Robert Beidler conducts the chorus with Ann Jackson at the piano. Lloyd Conley directs the band with Henry Ver Berkmoes assisting. Betty Jo Bosserdet solos. the program closes with audience carols and a joint performance of White Christmas and Twas the Night Before Christmas.

Train Car Crash Sends 2 To Hospital

Nettie Paige suffered critical injuries and was moved to St. Luke's in Saginaw after initial care at Clare General Hospital. Dorothy Carter sustained a broken leg nose and facial cuts and remained at Clare. Gerald Carter, driver, was shaken but not hospitalized.

Rain and cold did not dampen the Clare Santa event as hundreds of children and families lined McEwan Street for a fire engine parade with Santa as the centerpiece. He handed out candy and nuts, led the crowd to the park, and shook hands inside the fire hall. A store window treasure hunt offered prizes for numbered bags, drawing about 3,500 people with nearly 2,000 children in attendance. The event was organized by Clare firefighters with help from the Chamber of Commerce.

Grand Rapids man admits thefts from churches afoot
Dowiald Shattuck 24 of Grand Rapids confessed to a string of church thefts after a portable typewriter was stolen from St John’s Lutheran in Glare on November 29 and a small record player from a Clare church. He was arrested at Reed City by state police. He said he unlocked churches and entered uninvited, with other items including an electric drill taken from a Colenian church. police noted Clare churches had not confirmed the incidents.
