Clare County to install new sheriff and jail in 1957
Clare County prepares for a fresh start with Sheriff Elect James R. Darling replacing Everette Allen as the new jail and sheriff’s headquarters near Harrison near occupancy. Also sworn in January 1 1957 will be Treasurer Lewis Rutter Prosecuting Attorney James Bicknell and Probate Judge Mrs Donna Hecker. Brown School Weighs Annexation In January Election
Brown school voters will decide on annexation to Clare-Isabella County districts in a special election January 5. Carmen Newman, director, urged Hatton School District No. 2 Fr voters to cast ballots at the Brown schoolhouse from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Last spring the initial vote tied 16 16, blocking the proposal. The Brown district lies on the Hatton Arthur township line near Balsley and Brand districts, which joined the annexation, while Dover and Hagle did not.

13 Year Old Runaways Captured by Clare Police
Two 13 year old Flint boys runaway with a 46 caliber revolver and a switch blade were detained by Clare City Police after a waitress tipped off officers. The pistol, reported stolen in Miami, was found in their suitcases along with four spent shells. They planned to travel toward Traverse City for hunting. The father retrieved them for juvenile authorities.
