William Miller Dies in Sippi Lease Explosion
William B. Miller 24 of Hamilton township welder for Fran sig Loomis was killed instantly while repairing a heater on the Sippi lease in Eden township Mason county. An explosion blew him from the firebox as gas accumulated. he had previously worked in Pentwater for Art Ardrey. Miller, a World War I veteran born June 30 1924 in Lansing, is survived by his father stepmother siblings and half siblings. Funeral from Reigel Funeral Home Gladwin. Interment Highland Cemetery.

William Hayward and Howard Hanner of Farwell were arrested by State Police on grand larceny charges for stealing pipe from the McKay farm. Both pled guilty at arraignment before Municipal Justice Wn. Barn On Sherman Farm Destroyed By Fire
Firefighters battled a blaze last Saturday at the Sherman farm three miles west and 1.25 miles south of Clare. The 40 by 60 foot barn burned completely despite efforts, with smoke spreading into a nearby fence and stump area. A tractor was used to clear stumps and extinguish remaining embers. It is believed spontaneous combustion of green corn fodder sparked the fire. farmer Mr Hubbell was away at Dow's in Midland during the incident.

Scott Emerson Horn born September 9 1881 in Findlay Ohio died December 8 1948 at Clare Hospital aged 67. He lived in Clare county since 1898 and the last 21 years in Farwell. He married Clorence Stinchcombe February 28 1911 and survived by wife six children two brothers two sisters and seventeen grandchildren. Thurston chapel service conducted by Rev Charles B Hahn at 2 00 pm Saturday with burial in Surrey Township Cemetery.

Sleet Disrupts Michigan Traffic and Utilities
Sleet from Tuesday night into Thursday paralyzed parts of Michigan, knocking out telephone service between Clare and Mt. Pleasant and damaging lines in Alma Ithaca and St. Johns. Five traffic accidents were reported in Clare with one involving three cars at West Fourth Street and McEwan Street.
