Clare to meet Farwell in the season opener on Friday night with both boys and girls teams showcasing returning veterans and new candidates. At a Chamber of Commerce meeting at Phelps Cafe Teria a committee led by John Asline C Aws Wellman and Norris A Elden was formed to run the Community Fund. The plan includes a Christmas tree and baskets for the needy with fundraising from societies organizations and individuals. The tree will stand during the holidays and volunteers may be needed for Santa visits. report needy families to Norris Elden.
Last week Thursday the Ann Arbor Dairy Co. became owners of the Clare Creamery Co. and will take possession around January 1. Floyd Shoup, former owner and manager, remains in the business to oversee ice cream manufacturing in Clare.
At St Henry’s church in Vernon on Saturday November 29 Ethel Tomasik and George Gilcher were married by Rev. Fr. Flanagan. The couple, respected in the community, will begin housekeeping on a farm in Sheridan township.
A fire destroyed the 100 Per Cent Garage on McEwan Street last Saturday at 3:30 AM. Owner Charles Lamphere faced about 50 percent insured losses totaling thousands. twelve automobiles burned, with many owned by locals uninsured. Firefighter efforts were hampered by icy streets and a damaged ladder truck. the blaze risked Clare Realty Co. building but was contained with minor water and smoke damage insured.
James Fenton born April 6 1835 in Brighton Ontario died December 3 1924 aged 89 years 7 months 27 days. Survived by five daughters and numerous grandchildren. Moved from Ontario to Michigan in 1881 lived near Dover then Vernon where funeral held at Congregational church Clare and buried Cherry Grove cemetery.
