Mary McKay Dies After Months Long Illness at 78
Mrs. Mary E B McKay died at her home on McEwan and Seventh Streets December 4 after months of illness. She was 78, born May 4, 1876 in Clare County. She married James A McKay in 1894 and lived in Detroit before returning to Clare. Survived by two sons, a brother, three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Funeral held at Thurston Funeral Home with burial in Cherry Grove cemetery.

Explosion rocks Evart injuring three and damaging Fleming Shoe Store
A gas leak blast at 3:30 pm in Evart injured three people including Wes Corey who lost an arm at the restaurant behind Flemings Shoe Store. Mrs. Pearl Fleming and Mrs. Clyde Becker were hurt in the store as walls and ceilings were blown out. Store authorities say the furnace gas line caused the explosion and insurance covers losses. Flemings moved stock to another building.
