County seeks more and better police in Clare County

Clare County Prosecuting Attorney Richard Allen urged the county board to expand police coverage citing rising crime and 11 armed robberies in 18 months. He proposed boosting the sheriff’s road patrol or creating a separate county police agency with a hired chief, plus a central dispatch system and training for constables.

Michigan state song backed by Harrison man on Clare County vote

Clare County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution backing Ralph Carpenter of Harrison as the state song author. Carpenter, who wrote Song of Michigan, has support from State Rep. Ostling and Sen. Toepp. The board also approved paying Gus Aleck $14,776 for back pay and benefits after a court case.

The Clare Kiwanis Club will hold an advance sale of their newspaper on Wednesday December 15 and a downtown sale on December 17 and 18. Proceeds fund civic projects in the community.

Clare seeks 797000 grant for Shamrock Lake area improvements

The Clare City Commission filed a Public Works grant for 797000 to fund water sewer and road work on the north side of Shamrock Lake. Federal support was barred by eligibility rules. residents may bear sewer costs otherwise. Armed Robbers Hit Mannsiding Gas Station for 239.55

Clare County sheriff reports two men in ski masks robbed the Mannsiding self service station last Friday and fled with 239.55. No vehicle seen. It marks the county’s 11th armed robbery in 18 months with several similar gas station holdups involving ski masked men. Mt. Pleasant has reported related incidents.

New swine flu clinics scheduled in six Michigan counties

The Central Michigan District Health Department plans a new series of swine flu immunization clinics in Clare Arenac Gladwin Isabella Osceola and Roscommon Counties. The effort targets infants children and young adults with two injections one month apart and runs 1 30 to 5 p m except CMU site until 7 p m.

A morning outage lasting more than an hour hit Clare Farwell and nearby areas starting at 7 45 am caused by a breakdown at the Warren Township station near Midland Emergency lights came on at Clare Hospital and school children heard the lights return as 9 am approached If the outage persisted longer students would have been sent home

Santa Parade Through Clare Draws Helpers Saturday

Santa Claus visits Clare for a downtown parade on Saturday December 11 starting at 10 a.m. Participants meet at Lone Pine Restaurant 9 to 9 15 a.m. to join with cars trucks or sleds then parade travels south on McEwan Street to Gateway Ford. Santa remains downtown most of the day with additional hours to be announced.
