Clare residents receive winter tax bills covering county local schools ISD Community College. City totals 17 043 356 dollars with 14 568 443 real estate and 2 474 913 personal property. Bills payable when received through February 14 with a 4 percent penalty.
Clare County and nearby units receive first quarter Public Works anti recession aid totaling 58 131 for Clare County 13 588 for Clare city and 8 100 for Harrison. Funds come from CETA like program with restrictions on labor use and quarterly reporting due December 13 1976.
Santa Claus arrives in Clare with a downtown parade starting at 10 a.m. from the north end and moving south toward Gateway Ford. Kashy Mihalyfi invites all to join with decorated wagons and vehicles. Call Kathy, Jay, or Ken Barnes at the Chamber for participation details.
Optimist International will hold its Michigan District meeting in Clare in 1978. Dave Terrill said about 500 Optimist members from 111 clubs in Michigan and part of Canada will attend from May 5 to 7. The final state oratorical contest will be held during the convention and a banquet at the Hotel Doherty is planned for about 300 people.
Public health nurses will administer swine flu vaccine at Farwell Town Hall on Tuesday December 14 from 12 30 to 3 00 p m for those who qualified and could not attend earlier county clinics.
The Clare Lions Club will hold its first annual light bulb sale on Thursday December 2. A Lion Club member will call on homes between 4 and 9 p.m. Residents are asked to leave porch lights on to show interest. Proceeds support sight conservation and related Lion projects such as preventing blindness and helping people obtain eye glasses.
The rezoning dispute for Schoolcrest and Hemlock from R-1 to R-2, sought by James Bicknell for 3 lofts, is deferred to January due to notification time and the four member city commission. Residents oppose the plan. the Plan Board has approved it and will host another information meeting.
Santa Claus selects Mid Michigan Community College as its communication center for calls to children. The college's Community Service Department holds the exclusive North Pole rights and requires scheduling an appointment by calling 386 7792 and asking for Santa's Line.
