Woods Fire Record Favorable As Michigan Faces Peak Season
Michigan heads into the critical forest fire period with a very favorable record so far this year. M. M. Bergman of the Conservation Department notes 433 fires have damaged 2287 acres of state and private forests and grasslands, far below last year's 5000 acre level. He warns autumn hunting increases outdoor use and fire danger, as fires threaten soil and cost more to control. Last week saw just four fires and about two acres damaged.
