Four From Farwell Hurt On Highway
Six people were injured in a two car crash on WS-27 about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday four of them from Farwell. Injured were Ethel Loomis and her son Rodney from Farwell, Bernice Hose and her son Terry Rex, also of Farwell, and Joseph and Margaret McCaffery of Traverse City. Police say the crash appeared head on and the drivers were not yet questioned. Loomis is married to Bud Loomis and Hose to Vernie Hose.

25 Years In Conservation Service Recognition
Paul J. Sheponski received a 25 year public service honor for conservation work as a petroleum hazard inspector with the Michigan Department of Conservation. The event occurred at Haven Hill Lodge in the Highland Recreation Area near Milford on August 15, with seventeen colleagues honored. He joined the department in 1932 as a towerman in Petoskey and rose to district clerk in 1985, serving later as petroleum hazard inspector from Cadillac to Claré, with war service 1943–1945 and current posting in Claré. He is married to Betty with daughter Ste. Phey r aide, at 905 Maple Street.

Explosion Destroys Easlick Home Wounds Sixth Residents
Neighbors Gerald Avery and Harry Norbury recount the blast that wrecked the Easlick house west of Farwell. Rescue workers pulled victims from rubble as two women were injured and three young children escaped unharmed. The infant died later at Clare hospital.

Store Robbers Faintly Unload Safe at West Fourth Street Shop
A safe was removed from the rear of the Giant Super Market on West Fourth Street in Clare during a Sunday break in and left outside unopened while intruders fled. Clare Police and State Police investigate. In separate cases, Robert Duun pled guilty to reckless driving in Clare Municipal Court and was fined $36. Dale Morris faced drunk and disorderly charges with sentencing deferred to August 22.

Grimason to Retire After 29 Years Service
Sgt Hiram Grimason commander of the Houghton Lake State Police Post will retire October 2 after 29 years of service. He joined the State Police in 1927 and served at Flint Bay City Detroit West Branch East Lansing East Towns Sandusky and Clinton posts before transfer to Houghton Lake in 1951. He was commander at the Western East Towns and Sandusky posts.

Gas Explosion Destroys Farwell Home Killing Baby
A gas leak under the Easlick home near Farwell caused a blast that demolished the residence and injured six. Baby Laurie Ann Rosland died at Clare General Hospital. other injured include William Easlick, 38, Lucy Easlick 89, Shirley Basland, Albert Haslick, Theodore Thompson, with varying levels of burns, fractures, and shock.
