Golden Wedding Celebrated by Sheridan Couple

Mr and Mrs Thomas Hutchinson pioneers of Clare county celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their Sheridan township home Monday evening August 24 with about 130 old friends present. Rev Henderick performed a sacred ceremony and Mrs Ernest Kleiner sang O Promise Me with Miss Helen Kleiner providing the wedding march. The couple were attended by Mr and Mrs Robert Hutchinson. A silk bed spread was given as a gift by their friends and a program of songs readings and remarks followed. Refreshments included ice cream cake fruit and candy as guests departed. Distances covered included MT Pleasant Coleman and Midland by Mr and Mrs Henry Seaton Mr and Mrs Henry Johnson and A K Hutchinson and children.

The U S 10 Improvement Association led by Clare Chamber of Commerce reports progress toward hard surfacing U S Trunkline Highway No 10 from Saginaw to Ludington. Three New Wells Being Drilled in Vernon Field

The Vernon field near Clare sees three new wells under way as oil prices rise. Louis Thayer No 1 reached 400 feet, while John Brief No 1 and Wood No 2 are in early spudding stages. Officials predict a Clare field boom when oil prices make extraction profitable.

Clare public school opens with improved facilities

The Clare public school will open Monday with the same teachers as last year. The Agricultural Department under W E Tichenor will move to a new south side room. A new sewer, field clay, fresh exterior paint, and interior repairs complete the improvements. Ninth graders urged to visit Saturday for subject selection with parental aid possible. Classes begin Monday for assignments. full swing Tuesday.

Harrison Citizen Auto Accident Monday Injury Details

Jos Hoag and Al Grice were in an auto crash west of St Louis while returning to Harrison. Hoag suffered a broken nose and chest and stomach injuries. Grice injured a knee and cut inside the mouth. The incident involved a Model T owned by Casner of St Louis and a car with undimmed lights. Both cars were wrecked.

Clare Study Club flower show opens library season

The Clare Study Club begins its year with a flower show at Clare Public Library on September 1 from 3:00 to 9:00. Entries close at 11:00, ribbons reward winners with blue for first and white for second. Greenwood Couple Celebrate Golden Wedding Aug 9th

Sunday, August 9, marked the golden wedding of Mr and Mrs P P Chaffee. They were married fifty years ago at Elm Hall Michigan and renewed their vows before their son Clifford Chaffee. Family gathered for a chicken dinner and gold gifts as the couple’s Greenwood township farm and long life of labor were celebrated.

The Randall school homecoming, the first rural event of its kind in Clare county, draws strong local support. Clare Lady Returns From Vacation at Harbor Beach

Mrs. Johanna Mack came back from Harbor Beach where she vacationed with the DeNike family. Nearby, the visible church at Huron City hosts William Lyon Phelps preaching Sundays to a large regional audience, with notable musical talent and a New York City visitor one Sunday. Mrs. Mack also spent time in Detroit visiting her sister and a niece.

Fifty Veterans Dine At Barnes Cafe Meeting

About fifty members of Walter H. Larman Post No. 128 American Legion attended the annual meeting at Barnes Cafe Monday night. Adjutant Omar Hall reported the year’s activities and Homer Douglas presented the post’s financials. Officers elected by ballot include Omar Parent as Post Commander and Chas. Amble Harrison as Vice Commander with Omar Hall as Adjutant and Homer Douglas as Finance Keeper. The post also voted to purchase colors and an American Legion flag.

Two Clare Men Injured in Auto Wreck Saturday

Chas Strange and Chas Barber were badly cut and bruised when their car collided with another at the Purol station north of Mt. Pleasant. Strange was pinned beneath the wreck and taken to Alma hospital. Barber was treated at home. Both are recovering from their injuries.

Sheriff Edmond Wood’s Mother Dies at Home

Mrs. John Wood, mother of Sheriff Edmond Wood of Harrison, died Wednesday night at her home near Long Lake. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 PM at the residence. The Clare message to ER S. Chaffee reported the death.

The Baptist Ladies plan a baked goods sale at Friz's office this Saturday. A note says the Clare County Fair runs September 1 to 19 and urges Mr. Farmer to prepare an exhibit, warning not to disappoint the committee in charge.

Two Thousand See Wildlife Pictures at Clare County Event

In Clare County a crowd of about two thousand gathered for a day of song, music, talks, and Michigan wildlife films. Rain did not deter attendees who stayed to finish the moving pictures and a later ball game between Seaton and Harrison, won by Harrison four to two.

Services Held for Mrs. WM Kanarr at Brown Corner Church

Martha Anna Ott Kanarr born Detroit March 21 1883 died August 19 1931 after long illness. She moved to Clare at age five and remained a devout Christian member of Brown United Brethren church. Survived by husband William Kanarr five children four brothers and eight sisters. Funeral Saturday at Brown Corner church with Rev. Bates and Rev. Kleinbart. Interment Ott cemetery. Many relatives traveled from Detroit Elk Heart and Brighton Michigan.
