The Clare Board postponed decisions after a district poll showed many residents are not well informed about school finances. Trustees debated debt service and operating millage and chose to delaying any bond issue plan to Sept. 13.
Ferris State College wins an 18782 contract with the Upper Great Lakes Regional Commission to operate a mobile automotive training unit. The program will tour 24 cities in northern Michigan and beyond, serving 34 counties to upgrade 250 workers in tune up carbur etion systems diagnosis brakes and transmissions.
Clare Public Schools reduce the debt service levy by one half mill for 1971 72 totaling one mill while maintaining operation at 24.05 mills. Supt Richard Snyder cites unresolved state aid and maintenance needs to justify keeping maximum operation levy. District state valuation rises to 28 525 958 with bond retirement and interest due 43 737 50, reserve to be reduced from 122 427 37.
The Board of Education survey in Clare explores public views on solving overcrowding and inadequate facilities to retain accreditation with the North Central Association. Returns suggest uncertainty about the best path forward.
Aaron Brink 75 of Harrison died as his car, driven by his wife Frederika 78, failed to yield at the Alger Road M 46 intersection. Gary Shattuck 28 of Riverdale, driving the other vehicle, survived with minor injuries. The 3:35 p.m. crash killed Brink who was a passenger.
