Mayor Willard Koch promised immediate action to crack down on loitering noise making horn blowing and traffic violations in the downtown area after a citizen delegation spoke. G O Fullerton and Carl Stephenson described a series of issues raising safety and order concerns.
Jack Raymond is promoted to Director of Special Education at Clare County Intermediate School District with 10 specialists and 9 paraprofessionals. He becomes Deputy to the Superintendent and will supervise the Clare Gladwin Trainable and Day Training School. Roy E. Monro is hired as Coordinator of Cooperative Secondary Programs.
The Michigan Department of State Highways announces right of way acquisitions for relocating 843 miles of US-10 in Clare County. 105 parcels including 21 residences will be needed for a four lane freeway standard route linking I-75, 3.5 miles north of Clare, to M-115.
The Clare City Commission heard that the Michigan Department of Public Health may close the city dump within 60 days after a final warning citing improper waste management. State official Larry Thornton warned no license will be issued until corrective actions are taken, while City Manager Glen Cain outlined plans to address solid waste problems.
The Sentinel Office will be closed all day Saturday because of vacation schedules affecting staff. Readers are advised to plan around the closure and return notices when operations resume.
