The Taft Memorial Highway Association holds its 4th summer meeting at Johnson's Rustic Tavern in Houghton Lake this Friday and Saturday. Delegates from five of six states will discuss pushing a congressional resolution to designate a six state air route from the Soo to Fort Myers Florida. Notables including Congressman Woodruff Senator Ben Carpenter and Sergeant Alvin C York are scheduled to speak with registration at 4 p m and a banquet at 6 p m Friday.

Sunday, August 20, about 160 Robinet relatives gathered at Alwood Grove for the 19th annual reunion. A large chicken dinner, games, and visiting filled the day. officers were elected, new members joined by marriage and birth, with two deaths reported. The gathering drew attendees from Michigan towns including Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor, Coleman, Gladwin, Lansing, and Flint.

The Clare ladies beat the Alma group in a midweek match at Twin Elms Golf Course. Fifteen Alma players competed in matched play with Clare taking four of five foursomes, and the Clare foursome of Mrs. Leo Hampton and Mrs. Willard Bicknell posting a 47 to 49 victory. Vernon field oil boom hinted with 24 new wells
The Vernon oil field shows rapid growth with three more permits issued for wells on the Brooks farm Clare Durnin farm and Fred Verette farm. Clarence Thayer No 1 produced 150 to 200 barrels and deeper drilling or acid treatment is under consideration. Other wells on sections 15 23 and 10 show depths from 424 to 2650 feet as crews restart holes and extend casing.

Former resident Mae Van Brunt dies in Spokane home
Mae Van Brunt 57 died suddenly Sunday night at Newman Lake while entertaining guests. Dr. Finney said heart attack. She migrated from Detroit in 1910 with husband C. H. Van Brunt, formerly of Clare business circles, survived by son Leigh.

Funeral Services Held Sunday for Isabella Pioneer
Isabella Pioneer Isaac Newton Lansing longtime Isabella county resident died August 17 1933 at Herrick Michigan after returning from Ontario. He married Nettie Kidd July 1 1891 and left four children two daughters and two sons who died in infancy. He served as Isabella county deputy sheriff and was mourned by many including his wife two daughters and a host of relatives. Funeral was Sunday at the farm home conducted by Rev J E B Lockyer with burial at Cherry Grove cemetery.

Clare Man Bitten by Police Dog in Freeland Attack
James McKinnon, on a business trip to Saginaw, was attacked by a police dog at a Freeland lunch stand. The dog sank teeth into his right leg and tore flesh from his left calf. He received treatment in Freeland and Saginaw and was home with medical care. The vicious dog was ordered killed by Sag inaw authorities.

WHEAT REDUCTION PLAN OUTLINED FOR FARMERS AT VERNON MEETING

Twenty five Clare county farm women attended a cottage cheese making demonstration in Harrison arranged by Paul Gibson county agricultural agent with A C Baltzer from the Michigan State College dairy department. The session highlighted cottage cheese from skim milk as an attractive dairy dish and a nutritious use of surplus milk. About 16 pounds of cheese can be produced from 109 pounds of skim milk. The event is part of a series by Michigan State College dairy department to promote dairy product utilization.
