Ernie Ramey Home Damaged by Fire
Sunday forenoon about 12:00 o'clock the city fire department was called to the home of Mr and Mrs Ernie Ramey on east 5th street where a blaze of unknown origin ate into the building. The fire started in a rear partition below a chimney unused for eight years and away from wires and stoves. Mr Ramey suffered a $200 loss with smoke damage to interior walls. Firemen were praised for preventing further damage with water. The department was later called Tuesday forenoon to a grass fire near Standard Oil tanks but no damage resulted.

Pioneer Dwyer Dies at Seventy Six Pioneer of lumber industry dies after long career
William J. Dwyer aged 76 died August 9 at his Pine street home after a year of declining health. Born May 12, 1857 in Marmoria Ontario he joined Clare’s lumber boom in 1876 and later cooked for major Michigan companies. He and his brother John were early prospectors reaching Nome Alaska and he also worked in Michigan Dakota Washington Great Lakes and Alexandria Indiana during his varied career.

Widespread Auto Wrecks Endanger Several Near Brown Corners and Clare
Two serious crashes within short succession injured drivers and passengers. Iya Brooks of Jackson led an Oldsmobile with three aboard northbound when Henry Dehueydt in a Chevrolet allegedly entered the highway and caused the collision. Managers Brooks and passengers escaped with bruises while Dehueydt suffered arm and head cuts and major vehicle damage. A second crash south of Clare involved Isaiah Leebove returning to town colliding with a wagon driven by William Chappel of Vernon. Leebove’s attempt to avoid oncoming traffic led to a rear impact and the wagon collision, injuring Chappel who was hospitalized at Mount Pleasant with a broken ankle and bruises. he returned home the next morning recovering well.

Clare Young Man Accidentally Shot Tuesday Evening
Burl Roberts seventeen son of Mr and Mrs Frank Roberts of this city was accidentally shot Tuesday evening while visiting friends in the Midland oil fields. A shotgun hanging on the wall discharged when Leo Lyons attempted to remove it, causing a full charge to enter Burl’s leg above the knee. He was taken to Brandstetter hospital at Mt Pleasant and the leg was amputated due to the wound and loss of blood. He remains in serious condition though authorities hope for recovery.

John Mahar Dies After Prolonged Illness
John Mahar born near Toronto Ontario sixty one years ago died August 11 1933 at Campbell Hospital Mt Pleasant. He was the oldest child of Patrick Mahar and Jane Treanor and survived by a sister Mrs Timothy Regan and half brother William Mahar. Funeral at St Henry's Church with Rev Tomaszewski officiating and interment in St Henry's Cemetery. pallbearers included J D McConnel Claud Billard Hugh Johnson Ted Growley Russell McGuire and John McFarlane.

Isaac Lansing Killed by Freight Train Near Herrick
Isaac Lansing was fatally injured when struck by a west bound freight train at the Pere Marquette crossing one mile east of Herrick. Earl Baldwin, 19, a farmhand, was seriously hurt. both followed their car down a steep embankment after a stalled engine or unseen train approach. The body was taken to Friz Undertaking and the men had been returning home from an errand south of the tracks.

Red Crown Super Fuel Parade Sets Clare Visit
A Friday at five o clock parade featuring the New Standard Red Crown Superfuel caravan arrives from the north on U S 27. The 25 person crew travels 3000 miles across Michigan with seventeen vehicles including ten 1000 gallon tank wagons and a float led by Ruth Jordan.
