No Left Turn Bans to Speed Traffic at McEwan

State Highways approves an experimental no left turn rule for eastbound traffic entering McEwan Street from Fifth. Drivers must detour via Maple or Beech or pass through McEwan and turn north on Pine to return to North McEwan. A street parking ban on Fifth complements the plan.

Jobless Checks Change at Alma Michigan Offices

The Alma Branch Office of the Michigan Employment Security Commission announces new unemployment benefit reporting days for Mt. Pleasant and Clare. Mt. Pleasant report days move from Tuesday to Thursday starting September 28 1967 and Clare move from Wednesday to Tuesday starting September 19 1967. The change aims to give more time to process claims and improve service.

Local mails this week carried envelopes with a California post mark and return address from a Directory Service Co. that resembled a bill for payment. The card warns that it is a proposal form not a bill and on the reverse admits the company is an independent publisher with no connection to other directory publishers.

State Highway Commission Publishes County Maps for Sportsmen

The State Highway Commission offers black and white county maps in two scales three-eighth inch to the mile and one inch to the mile. Smaller maps cost 25 cents each or 10 dollars for all counties. large maps cost 75 cents each. Individual upper peninsula sheets vary by county. Orders are sent to Maps State Highway Commission Lansing 48926 with checks or money orders payable to the commission.

Ducks set to open Oct nine in Michigan 1967 season

Michigan approves the 1967 waterfowl plan with a 40 day duck season from October 9 to November 17 and goose season running from October 1 to November 30. Daily limits keep four mallards and eight in possession with adjusted limits for wood ducks and canvasbacks. Canada geese stay at five per day with two in possession. Goose opener in northern Michigan is at 11 a.m. E.D.T.

Farwell Man Injured In Car Crash

Edward Kuck, 52, of 236 Hall Street, Farwell, was injured when his car left a dead end on Arthur Road at Bringold Avenue in Lake George, flipped, and caused fractures and internal injuries. He was taken to Glare Osteopathic Hospital by Mt. Pleasant State Police.

Clare County Share of State Highway Fund Distributions

Claré county’s share of the State Motor Vehicle Highway Fund for the 1967 second quarter totaled 103357 dollars. The City of Clare received 5497 dollars. Distribution began August 14 from a fund of about 56 million dollars. Nearby towns also received funds: Farwell 2308 Beaverton 2434 Coleman 3776 Gladwin 5847 and Harrison 3449.
