Reverend Kleinhardt Ends Eighth Harrison Year
Reverend Kleinhardt finishes his eighth year as pastor of the Harrison United Brethren Church. He plans to continue gospel work in the county and assist where called. The United Brethren conference closes August 22 at Carson City camp grounds. A farewell reception for Rev and Mrs Kleinhardt was hosted by George and Hazel Dillenbeck in Harrison with a silver purse and tokens of appreciation.

Veteran Vernon resident dies at Hemlock aged 69
John Hodkinson aged 69 a long time Vernon township resident died after a brief illness at his daughter Mrs Rose Galloway’s Hemlock home. He was born in Oxford Michigan April 25 1868 and married Lillian Marseilles in 1904. Survived by one daughter one brother and a sister. Funeral held at Thurston Funeral Home with Rev J E Priestly officiating. interment Cherry Grove Cemetery. Distanced mourners included Anna Watson Mrs Mavis Mrs J E Priestly H Johnson Virginia Clark and relatives from Saginaw Letroit and Alpena.

Grandmother Phoebe Heimbecker Loomis laid to rest
Funeral services were held Wednesday for Mrs. Phoebe Heimbecker Loomis, mother of Mrs. L. H. Thompson, with burial north of Ewart. She had lived with her daughter in Clare and her son John at Sears, suffered a stroke August 9, and died Monday morning at about seven thirty. Surviving children are John Sears, Mrs. L. H. Robinetts Hold 23rd Annual Reunion in Alwoods Grove
The 23rd Robinetts reunion drew 165 relatives to Alwoods Grove on Sunday, August 15. Oldest member Nettie Barber, youngest Myron Davis, and three new marriages—Galen Coats with Grace Sanders, Roy Wilson with Virgie Dysinger, Floren Pudway with Inez Hemstreet—were noted along with three deaths and five births. Many relatives traveled from Lansing Ypsilanti Hamilton Ind Mancelona Chesaning Pontiac Ann Arbor Elida Lima Spencerville Van Wert Flint Indiana and more. A chicken dinner and onion day capped the event as attendees looked ahead to 1938 reunion.

Heiser Suffered Fracture in Auto Accident Near Clare
Miss Mary Frances Heiser daughter of Mr and Mrs Warren Heiser Vernon Hill sustained a fracture of the right leg and side injuries Sunday evening when the auto she rode in tired over after a tire blew nine miles north and two east of Clare. She was taken to Reeder Hospital. Joseph Traverse driver and Raymond Belmer had minor injuries. Reports say Miss Heiser is recovering nicely.

Greenwood couple marks 56th wedding anniversary
Mr and Mrs P P Chaffee celebrated their fifty sixth anniversary on Sunday August 16 with four sons and families present. Grandma Chaffee helped prepare a large meal and the dining room bloomed with flowers. They have lived in Greenwood township forty five years and remain active farmers into retirement ages of 75 and 71. Present were sons Ernest of Clare Clifford John and Floyd with their families.

Clare's first summer playground closes Friday after a successful season with over 160 participants aged four to twenty four. Activities included softball volleyball horse shoe pitching basketball and swimming directed by Coach Leo Brown and Al Brazie. Funding came from James Olson Lyle Chapyian the School Board City Council Mammoth Petroleum Kiwanis and the Clare Sentinel. No pool attendant after August 20.

Five Die In Auto Crash Near Black Hills
Five people were injured in a Thursday auto crash on Lake and Weidman road. A head on collision near the curve left Willard Gilman and Chas Forbes, Wilbur Phillips of Roscommon, Fred and Norma Maslin of Marion, all taken to Clare County General Hospital with serious facial lacerations and body bruises.

The Clare City Band wrapped up its summer concert series by Doherty Hotel with standard marches waltzes and novelty numbers. The group will perform at the Clare County Agricultural Fair in Harrison for three afternoons and evenings starting next Wednesday.

Clare County readies its fifty first annual fair at Harrison fair grounds opposite Wilson State Park. Aged Citizen Henry May Dies After Heat On Clare Road
Henry May died suddenly Monday morning after resting in shade at the Clare Road Leveler Machine shop. Dr. Sanford cited heart trouble and overexertion. The Friz Undertaking Co. sent the body to his sister Mrs. E L Potter on West Highth street. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the local Methodist church with Rev. Geo Stanford officiating. May, born July 16 1851 in Ontario, would have turned 86, moving to Virginia in 1875 and Michigan in 1894. He leaves sisters Mrs BE Potter of Clare and Mrs James Freeland of Ontario Canada plus many relatives.
