Clare teachers approve two year contract with Board of Education

The Clare Education Association and the Board of Education ratified a two year pact after weeks of negotiation. Beginning teachers with a bachelor's degree receive an $8000 base salary rising to $8400 in 1972 73. The contract boosts insurance contributions from $240 to $360 per employee and increases sick leave to 110 days total 10 days per year with limits on use. Ongoing meetings between board and teacher representatives are planned.

Mid Michigan CC expands course list this fall

The college announces the largest course selection in its history with expanded sophomore offerings include many new classes this fall. Evening and transfer programs are added, with schedules available at the campus and Mt. Pleasant High School.

Work Underway on Clare School Census

Workers for the Clare School census begin today. A dozen people will conduct the census and review questionnaire returns sent last Thursday seeking public opinion on school facilities. Just over 2,700 questionnaires were issued and 85 replies had been received by Monday.

Guard engineers help build Scout camp facilities north of Clare

Michigan National Guard Company D 107th Engineer Battalion based in Kingsford oversees on the job training during annual duty to construct a trailer park ten gravel pads an access road a sandy beach area and a footbridge at Camp Rotary Lake Beebe seven miles north of Clare. The project involves 1100 acres owned by the Rotary Club of Saginaw with Camp Rotary buildings run by Lake Huron Area Boy Scout Council. The effort garners strong cooperation from Scout officials and civic leaders and serves as practical training for about 134 guardsmen and a boost to 8000 Scouts expected annually at the camp.

Matteson to retire as Citizens Bank rosebush chief

Frank LaGoe of Citizens Bank Clare announces Roy B. Matteson will retire Aug. 1 after 53 years with the bank and its Rosebush predecessor. He leaves as vice president and Rosebush office head, to serve advisory role and remain a director. A Aug. 11 retirement party is planned. Stanley L. Warner will replace him as Rosebush officer with Harold Prout assisting.
