Trans Michigan Waterway Proposal Aims to Solve Water Shortages
Lansing engineer John R. Snell proposes a 900 mile inland waterway linking lakes and rivers to provide fresh water, hydro power, and 1500 miles of shoreline. Phase one would move Lake Huron water to the Looking Glass River then toward Battle Creek and Grand Rivers, with a total 560 miles initially. The plan envisions dams, pump stations, and eventual state authority to study, finance, and operate the project.
