C G M Holds Very Successful Meet at Midland

The Clare Gladwin Midland District Association of the Order of the Eastern Star held its twenty third annual meeting in Midland last Wednesday and Thursday August tenth with three to four hundred members present. Seven chapters Beaverton Clare Coleman Farwell Gladwin Harrison and Midland were represented along with visiting chapters. Veterans of Foreign Wars to Organize Post in Clare

Veterans of Foreign Wars will organize a post for Clare and vicinity at the Clare City Hall on August 16, 1938 at 8 p m. State officers will be in charge and delegates from Harrison Gladwin Alma Mt Pleasant and elsewhere will attend. VFW emphasizes service in world war I era veterans and requests attendees bring their discharge records.

Rolland Comer Injured In Auto Wreck Near Sanford

Rolland Comer, returning to Clare from Bay City visit, fell asleep at the wheel Friday morning at the west village city limits of Sanford. His Ford V-8 owned by Lewellyn Vat Sicklen veered into a ditch and turned turtle. He sustained severe cuts and bruises to the forehead and arm as emergency crews removed him.

Shepherd Young Man Takes Vernon Bride Saturday Morning

Saturday at nine oclock Mrs Dorothy Border daughter of Mr and Mrs Chester Thayer became the bride of Patrick Fanning son of Mr and Mrs John Fanning of Shepherd at Father Heneegie s home in Shepherd. Attendants were Mabel Van Hoose Clare and Joe Fanning Shepherd. The bride wore navy blue crepe with white accessories. Both groomsmen wore oxford grey. The couple left for Detroit and will reside on the groom s farm near Shepherd after the ceremony.

The Van Horn No 1 discovery well in section 3 Freeman township was treated with 206 gallons of acid Tuesday and production jumped from 250 to about 1000 barrels daily.
