Lake Man Struck by Fishing Hook in Neck

Cari Heim of Lake was hooked in the neck by a casting plug while fishing Friday. He was treated at Clare General Hospital with tetanus shots and returned Monday for further care after reacting to the shot.

Clare County Fair Opens August 16 With Expanded Exhibits

Clare County Fair opens Tuesday August 16 running through August 20 at Harrison fairgrounds. A new exhibit building adds 11 extra displays, the racing track has been resurfaced, and professional entertainment including Joie Chitwood Auto Thrills begins the lineup. Highlights include livestock divisions, 4 H exhibits, needlework and foods contests, Children’s Day rides, and a Barnes Carruthers show nightly to close with a fireworks display. Admission details list 75 cents grandstand, parking 50 cents, weekly pass a dollar, under ten free with adult, ages ten to fifteen at 35 cents.

Plan County Salk Shots In Single Day

Clare County schedules August 18 to administer the second round of Salk polio vaccine to first and second graders across Lake Farwell Clare and Harrison locations with times from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Parents may choose the convenient site and bring records of the first shot. Strikes Hit Lake Area Homes Cause Fire and Smoke

Lightning struck the W. D. Bel linger home at Lake last Thursday afternoon. The strike shattered rafters burned out the pump television antenna and several lamps. Mrs. Bellinger was in the basement and unharmed. The locality saw power failures with pumps refrigerators and telephones out of service.

Escaped From Jail Must Face Court

A Mt. Pleasant man, Claus, 26, escaped Clare City jail early Thursday then returned hours later to surrender to police. He faced DUI charges and jail breaking after the escape, with bond set at 500 dollars. His mother posted the cash bond. A separate case: Joseph White, 22, Owosso, pleaded guilty to DUI in Dunlop's court and paid fines. He surrendered his license after a State Street collision.

Clare Feels Water Strain as City Expands Supply

City Manager Willard Wedge reports Clare’s 3,000 residents consume about 800,000 gallons daily, far above the typical half. Water Well No. Three began a three hour test at 540 gallons per minute but showed pressure drop, yielding about 32,400 gallons per hour and just over 750,000 gallons per day, indicating insufficient supply. Well No. Two remains intermittently in use to maintain pressure, with improvements near West Fifth Street and McEwan areas not extending to John and John R Streets or the far east.

Tolson No. 17 Wells Near Lake George Highlight Michigan Pool

Wm Stewart and Basin Oil Co reported Tolson No. 17 as a strong new producer about three quarters of a mile north and west of Lake George in Lincoln township. A Short test flowed 33 barrels per hour, pinched back to 10, then to 5-6 barrels. An offset well in Lincoln Section 6 will be spudded immediately with Socony Mobil indicating a test hole southwest of the Lincoln pool in Freeman township Station 14.

G O C posts expand in Clare County region

Eight Ground Observer Corps posts are now in Clare County at Lake Clare Farwell Lake George Temple Harrison Stover's on US-27 and Arthur.
