The Public Service Commission approved a 30 cent monthly increase for Clare residence lines and 15 cents for Farwell and Rosebush. After a year and a half of negotiations, the GC & O railroad approved a storm sewer under tracks near Selter Brothers Lumber to alleviate frequent floods on Fourth Street. Steam Engine Fire Hits Loomis Sawmill Near Clare
A steam engine powered a sawmill owned by Jim Gerow two and a half miles north of Loomis. Fire officials reported the blaze started in sawdust around the engine and spread to surrounding area. Nearby, a fuse box at McDonald's Auto Sales on McEwan Street shorted and burned 100 feet of wiring after a dirt loader knocked the box loose. First, a shower cooled the heat wave with 74 degrees noted, then temperatures rose again toward ninety. Lightning sparked brush fires near the Dale Lloyd place, prompting Conservation fire crews and neighbors to subdue two acres of marsh land by 6:30. Cattle escaped danger. no injuries reported.
