Funeral services for George W. Siel were held at Farwell Methodist Church with Rev. Charles B. Hahn officiating and burial in Surrey Township Cemetery. Born February 19, 1867 in Utica Michigan, he died August 3 1946 at his daughter’s Clare home aged 79 years 5 months 15 days. He married Bertha Smith October 2 1887. five children survive with numerous grandchildren.

Fire Department Extinguishes Oil Well Fire Near Clare
Clare rural fire truck battled an oil well blaze on Wickhind Development Company lease near Clare for most of Friday morning. Fire originated in a pipe pulling rig and spread to the well, oil overflow reignited hot pipes, firefighters made three trips to water supplies to refill a 200 gallon booster tank, dyked the well, and washed out remaining flames. The pipe pulling rig’s motor truck burned completely except the front end housing a new motor. Fire department says rural areas need adequate firefighting equipment.

Charge Change in Schaaf Penrose Case Over Wheat Dispute
Franklin Schaaf was to be arraigned on assault with intent to kill but the charge was dismissed on prosecutor Naumes's motion. The case stemmed from a wheat harvesting dispute with Lowell Penrose who claimed Schaaf poisoned land and Schaaf allegedly fired at the Penrose tractor, wounding a radiator. Freight Wreck at Rosebush Delays Saturday Traffic
A southbound freight on the Ann Arbor line derailed eight cars at Rosebush Saturday morning around 4 700 o clock when a heavy timber struck a switch on a side track. The mishap sidetracked cars and toppled several, drawing a large crowd as cranes cleared the scene. Traffic was halted for twelve hours while rails were replaced.

Two Killed in Rosebush Crash July 30
Rubin D. Parker and his wife Nettie Mae Parker died at Central Michigan Community Hospital after a traffic accident one and a half miles north of Rosebush on US 27 at 10 AM. Paul Todoroff, 83, Jackson, driving north, veered off wet pavement and crossed center line, colliding with the Parker car. Todoroff, his wife Nanka, two children, and Anna Atanasoff escaped serious injuries.

Richard Woodcock Dies at Home in Clare
Richard Woodcock died suddenly at his home in Clare on a Saturday morning after a short illness following a stroke. Born December 21, 1890 in Banner township Illinois he moved to Detroit and later Clare where he ran a garage with Jack Larman for over twenty years. He married Bessie Hartman in 1930 and served as chief of the Clare Fire Department, active in the Clare Rod and Gun Club, and loved hunting fishing and golf. He leaves wife Bessie and three children from a previous marriage and is mourned by many friends.
