Central Michigan Undertakers Hold Third Annual Picnic
The Central Michigan Undertakers held their third annual picnic at Lakeside Pavilion Wilson State Park on July 31 1930. Attendance was the largest in the organization’s history amid ideal weather and park scenery. Speakers included Father Dark of Shepherd and Father Morrison of Clare with music from the Campbell orchestra and toastmaster William Murphy. Gifts featured a perambulator and twin dolls for Asa Aldrich and a hot water bottle for Jay Stinson.

Nellie M Best Losie Summers born February 3 1860 near Springfield Canada. She married N W Losie in 1877 and later Chas F Summers in 1923. Survived by eight children and multiple relatives. Funeral services by Rev Smith held at Gleaner hall Lake and burial in Lake cemetery.

The Sunday School picnic at the Baptist church in Wilson Park last Thursday drew 103 attendees. A long pavilion table overflowed as more visitors arrived, with a second table added for the crowd. Refreshments included watermelons provided by Supervisor Miss Thompson and casual lake swimming.

Scout Training Makes Hero of John White
John White a 12 year old Boy Scout from Rudy Cotton's troop dives at the Tobacco River pool east of the city and saves 11 year old Thelma Koch from drowning. He learned life saving at Windover lake and kept the act quiet until witnesses reported it. He faces a life saving award recommendation from the Scout council.

Boy Hurt After Fall While Protecting Pigeon
Robert Hudson Jr., 11, of Bennington township, fell 20 feet from a barn beam while trying to reach a pigeon. He suffered a serious arm fracture and was in Memorial hospital in critical condition, with initial fears of amputation eased as X rays showed a very severe break. His cousin Vincent, age eight, witnessed the incident.

Birth of triplet sons in Arthur township followed by death of Willis C.
May fifteenth at the home of Mr and Mrs Eugene Orvis in Arthur township three sturdy boys blessed the family. Willis C the strongest died after a brief illness last Friday. Surviving are four brothers three sisters and two half brothers with the parents. Unknown men seize slot machines in local eating houses
A Joslin restaurant slot machine was confiscated Monday afternoon by three unidentified men who loaded it into a waiting car and sped away toward U S 10. Early Tuesday, two men posing as State Police officers took another slot machine and punch board from Bills Cafe on West Fifth Street after inspecting a badge. The cafe owner asks whether the men were genuine officers or impostors, as no police report has yet been received.
