Lost Titles Reappear as Drivers Seek Papers

The Department of State notes that twice a year many car owners cannot locate their titles and complain they were never received. The lost title file can hold up to 6,000 items as addresses are often incorrect and titles are returned. When plates are renewed, corrected addresses are used and titles are forwarded. As 1936 plates go on sale at half price, more owners license cars and search the lost file, which seldom contains fewer than 3,000 titles.
