Michigan Leads Tax Campaign With $27000 Drive

Michigan will spend 27000 to run an August statewide delinquent tax collection campaign led by Milton M. Alexander of Detroit. The plan aims to move taxpayers on the ten year plan to make second payments by September 1 and attract others to join, highlighting savings on interest and improved state finances. Governor Fitzgerald cast the deciding vote for the ad campaign.

Mason named state electrical inspector for central Michigan

Carl D. Mason of Howell has been appointed district electrical inspector for Livingston County and four counties to relieve Robert Huff. His Mt. Pleasant office is 118.4 South Main Street, and an August electrician license examination will be announced.

Dr J B Roe Dies After Long Illness In Lansing

Dr J B Roe aged 53 former Clare resident and longtime local dentist died in Lansing after months of illness. He practiced in the Hiden block and later sold his practice to Dr F W McKnight before moving to Lansing. A former president of the Michigan State Dental Association, he was widely known in the state. Funeral services were held last Monday at 11:00.

Pioneer Couple of Greenwood Hug 55th Wedding Anniversary

Mr and Mrs P P Chaffee of Greenwood township celebrated their fifty fifth wedding anniversary at their son John Chaffee s home. Seventeen attendees included most children and five grandchildren with one great grandchild present. The couple, ages 72 and 75, still manage their farm home despite poor health and have lived on the farm for forty four years after clearing land and replacing log structures with frame buildings in 1902.

Circus Returns to Town for Walter L Main 50th Anniversary

Annual Camp Meeting Set at Gladwin Plemming’s Grove

Clare Future Farmers Band to Play Barryton Concert

The Michigan State Future Farmers of America will give a free band concert in Barryton on Saturday night August 22 at 8 30 p m The band includes sixty players from fifty Michigan towns and has been chosen as the official band for the National F F A Convention in Kansas City in October Local Clare Future Farmer members include William Moline Donald Brooks and Raymond Verrette The ensemble previously drew over seven thousand listeners at Farmers Week July 31 in East Lansing Council and staff arrange for a large crowd and a summer camp at Lake Mitchell Cadillac during the concert week.

Ivan Feighner Suffers Broken Leg in Vernon Calf Loading

Ivan E Feighner suffered a broken left leg below the hip while loading a calf into a trailer at the Clyde Allen farm in Vernon. The animal reportedly slipped or lunged, fell on him, and he was taken to Clare County General Hospital where he will remain for six weeks as a cast cannot be used for the fracture.
