Last Rites Held for C. H. Sutherland Pioneer Clerk
Funeral services were conducted Saturday for C. H. Sutherland longtime cashier of The Clare County Savings Bank. Born September 9, 1851 in Deerfield Michigan he died April 21 1943 at Clare aged 91 years 7 months 12 days. He helped found the Clare County Bank later renamed The Clare County Savings Bank and served as cashier for forty seven years. He leaves wife three sons a daughter eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Interment was in Cherry Grove Cemetery with Rev. Albert Dawe officiating.

Bond Boosters Celebrate Second War Loan Drive Victory
The Bond Boosters Club honored the Gallants of Garfield township for surpassing their War Savings Bonds quota in the Second War Loan Drive. Omer Parent was absent among speakers while Robert Klemer spoke on Civilian Defense. Joanne Richard showcased tap dancing and baton twirling with Vena Lee Gillespie at the piano. Jimmie Gillespie entertained with his concertina as the Civilian Defense group and Stamp and Bond groups chased the trophy cup, auctioned by Jess Lee for Freeman township.

Police Inspector Tops Detroit Bond Drive As War Bond Clerk
Walter Stelt, Detroit police inspector, labeled city’s top bond salesman, pledged to raise 10000 by April end in the Second War Loan. He toured Packard offices and was met by Hugh Ferry, secretary treasurer, who declined the bid. Perry then signed an application for two million dollar bonds in his stead.

John Cameron Dies Sudden at Owosso City Hall Aide
John Cameron longtime Owosso City Assessor died suddenly at his Owosso home at 2:00 AM Wednesday. Survived by wife Dolly Dudley Cameron, he formerly lived in Temple and Ann Arbor, worked as a barber, and later served as city assessor. Funeral at Owosso Friday at 2:00 PM with interment in Owosso. A life story will follow.

Lieutenant McArthur Dies of Heart Attack in Harrisburg
Second Lieutenant Stewart McArthur Jr., 26, son of Mr and Mrs Stewart McArthur Sr of Rosebush, died Friday morning in a Harrisburg military hospital after a heart attack. Funeral and burial details followed in Detroit and Mt. Pleasant with military honors. he leaves a widow Eloise and two sons. Surviving relatives include his parents, a sister Doris Briedenstein, and extended kin in Illinois and Michigan. He had been in Army service about a year and a half, trained at Fort Benning and Rice Field, with desert warfare instruction.

The City of Clare will move to Eastern War Time tomorrow morning May 1 as approved by the City Council in line with state legislation and citizens at the Spring Election. Harrison and Farwell also adopt Eastern War Time Saturday. The change aims to support the war effort with cooperation from the community and adherence to presidential and state directives.

Lillie Maud Mickle aged 73 dies after a lingering illness at her daughter Mrs. Glenn Gordon’s homestead in Arthur township Clare county. She was born in Indiana August 19 1869 and was the widow of Henry Mickle a longtime farmer. Funeral in Doherty Sons Chapel Tuesday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Chas Kleinhardt officiating burial in Cherry Grove. Her life story will be published next week.

Second Sunrise Easter Service at Colonville Church

Citizens State Bank Expands Vault Capacity
The Citizens State Bank has nearly tripled vault space on the main and basement floors to provide fire and burglar proof storage for patrons valuables and the bank's funds and records. The main floor vault will store currency and current records, the original vault will hold safety deposit boxes, and the basement vault will house permanent records.
