Guidance explains enrollment dates for Clare High School with April 29 for upper grades and April 28 for juniors. Six youths from Gladwin Harrison Temple and Marion were arraigned by Municipal Judge William B. Dunlop on breaking into Temple school and stealing gas during January. Three 17 year olds received one year probation after paying 29 dollars in fines. the other three ages 18, 18, and 17 paid 29 dollars and received five days in Harrison County Jail.
The Ladies City Bowling League will hold an open meeting to distribute prize money from tournaments. The session is scheduled for May 10 at 8 p.m. at the Doherty Hotel.
Clare Methodist Church hosts an all church pot luck dinner at 6 30 pm in the banquet room on Friday April 29 followed by a program honoring new members and the Woman's Society of Christian Service. The Roscommon County Veterans of World War I and the first Auxiliary in Michigan organized at Lyon Township Hall Higgins Lake on Sunday April 17 with over a hundred attendees. They aim to secure parity with Civil War Spanish War and World War II veterans in government benefits including pensions hospitalization and outpatient care for all WWI veterans without the pauper oath. A four-barracks plan was mentioned for care facilities.
The Clare Public School reports 160 adults took part in 13 classes totaling over 2500 instruction hours. Laureen Woodward reports the Clare school hosts the operetta Mississippi Melody at 8:15 pm starring Huck Finn Dick Beery Tom Sawyer Jim Robaugh and Joe Charlie Zeller with Becky Thatcher Jean Bowler Susy Harper Ann Jackson Mary Lydabelle Bicknell Ella Mae Mary Tice Steamboat Sam Kyle Hanley Puddinhead Wilson Roger Brinkerhoff Aunt Polly Twila Beery Miss Watson Pat Barber Widow Marilyn Smith Mrs Harper Bonnie Stanley and Mrs Phelps Darylene Schunk in key roles. The story satirizes small town life near the Mississippi River with romance and family mischief as the main attractions.
The Clara Rebekah Lodge held an April 26 initiation and installation in their hall to welcome state officer Mrs. Zetta Timpson of Detroit, with guests from Farwell Weidman Coleman Midland and Byron Center attending.
Ted Hoersch, a Clare high school graduate attending Michigan State College, is among 568 students on the winter term 1955 Honors List for maintaining an average of 3.6 or higher.

Pfc Donald J Pantenburg of Mt Pleasant and Pfc Hzra H Miller of Clare join 800 soldiers at Camp Desert Rock Nevada for Exercise Desert Rock VI. They will observe an atomic blast then advance toward Ground Zero as part of a tactical armored force. Miller and Pantenburg are with Company C 728rd Tank Battalion.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Purvis and family of Lake George brought back Indian relics from Arizona where they spent the winter. Private land hunting yielded pottery stone axes scrapers a corn grinder trays arrow and spear heads bone awls and beads from an ancient age due to federal limits on private searchers on government land.
Clare Rod and Gun Club members met to discuss the proposed dam on the old power site two miles northeast of town. Lewis Eastlick and Charles Nagle outlined plans and offered free engineering services while volunteers prepare surveys and plot about ninety lots for funding the project.
Clare Pioneer Baseball defeated Farwell 15 to 14 on April 21 in a two and a half hour game. Fred Haggart had five hits in five at bats with four RBIs including a triple a double and three singles. Nard Robinette and Bob Sharp added two hits each as Clare posted 15 hits to Farwell s seven with five errors. Coach Bob Baker cited weak pitching and too many walks. Clare faces St Louis next on May 2 at 3 30 p m.
The Tri County Health unit vaccinating 415 first and second graders across Clare Harrison and Farwell completed the first round in 40 minutes. Nurses praised efficiency and organization as buses ferried rural students to town schools. some children were surprised to learn shots did not hurt.
The Clare High School Junior Band will perform a solo concert on May 12 with the Senior Band contributing numbers at its May 20 concert. Both events start at 8:00 p.m. in the school auditorium under Lloyd Conley.
National Family Week begins with Children’s Day observed by the Methodist Church. Clare Methodist Church will host a morning service at 10:00 with representatives from the children’s divisions and an invitation to parents and children to attend.
Clare and Gladwin county home extension group members meet at Clare High School on May 3 for an all day session featuring the Easy-Does-It Kitchen trailer from Consumers Power Company. The kitchen opens to the public May 2 3 4 with tours and demonstrations on storage and equipment use. The day includes a style revue meet-your-neighbor period a special lunch and talks by A G Kettunen and Mrs Donald E Holbrook plus music by the Bagley sisters. Spring Achievement Day is May 4 at Mt Pleasant with Dr Paul Miller and Mrs Paul Todd as speakers and top 4-H dress models. Exhibits will be shown countywide and at Central Michigan College of Education.
